Although H.R.5 (which passed 236-173 on May 17) will be DOA when it gets to the Senate, this piece of legislation shows us a good example of what we can expect from the new Democrat party and its Socialist-oriented youth movement. In a nutshell, they want sexual orientation and gender identity to be included in the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The ramifications of this nonsense would be widespread and would drastically alter our culture as we know it. Congressman Phil Roe (R-TN) has done a great job explaining the intent and consequences of this legislation in his recent newsletter dated May 18.

Under the Equality Act, men can claim they are female without any gender transition; biological males who have yet to go through a gender change would be guaranteed access to private areas designated by gender; and men would be allowed to be admitted into female safe houses, regardless of whether their presence will serve as an emotional trigger and jeopardize victims’ safety and health...

Another troubling provision in this bill would prevent parental involvement and decision making for a child with gender dysphoria and prohibits a physician from treating gender dysphoria the way they believe is best for their patient...

The entire newsletter is a very informative piece and is only five paragraphs long. Obviously, it was written before the House vote was taken.

The 2020 presidential campaigns have already been going on for several weeks and it's hard to imagine what we'll have to endure over the next eighteen months. Regardless, if anyone has any doubt about the direction this country will take if the Democrats gain power just take a look at the content of this bill passed by the Pelosi/Cortez/Omar controlled House.

Keep in mind that Joe Biden or any of the others will have to go along with a radically liberal agenda to even have a chance to get the Democrat nomination. The silver lining behind their legislative snail's pace is that only five bills have been passed, sparing the country the insanity coming from the Democrat party. Fortunately, the Green New Deal was snuffed out in the Senate. But it still amazes me that EVERY Democrat voted FOR H.R.5 - even the ones from red states who'll be up for reelection in 2020. Who do they fear most - their constituents or Pelosi?

The problem (and arguably the root cause) is that a 78 pound anorexic will stand naked in front of a mirror and see a morbidly obese fat slob who desperately needs to lose weight. And yet EVERY Democrat in the House - and even eight Republicans - voted to give this mental illness the same standing and accomodation as race or one's biological sex. They should have offered an alternative proposal that would provide research, therapy or treatment similar to the programs they pass for physical diseases like AIDS. Instead they pander to a tiny fraction of the radical left. Notice also that there was nothing but crickets from the MSM about this legislation, and the public at large has no clue it ever happened.

If you look at the bill closely, it has far less to do with LGBTQ protections than it does as being a naked power grab. It shreds the First Amendment and puts unelected deep state bureaucrats into every part of our lives.

Indeed, a legislative wolf dressed in the sheep's clothing of minority rights - with the new minority being LBGTQ and gender fluid males. On most college campuses today - where inclusion and acceptance are MAJOR issues - any adverse actions or opinions against these people are considered to be bigotry and hate speech. Students put themselves at risk if they say the wrong words or question the acceptance of transgenders into single-sex organizations like sororities or women's athletic teams. How long before these standards make their way into the workplace? They're already in the military (Bradly Manning).
On another note, how long before we see transgenders portrayed in movies and primetime TV sitcoms being portrayed as completely normal people? The thought police are already watching. If the Democrats gain enough power to pass something like the Equality Act, will offenders be sent to re-education camps?

I'm not even worried about the normalization of trans peoples. That's something van van happen with out without legislation. It will destroy women's sports, tho.

The bigger issue is the compelled speech. It forces people to say things that might not want to say. It makes it illegal to misgender someone. And even more disturbing is that it doesn't merely make certain types of behavior illegal, it makes the perception of certain types of behavior, or the perceived intentions, illegal. In other words, if someone thinks you hurt their feelings, you in big trubble.
