Pen and Pad, it's all you need to keep it simple.

It is called the General Journal or to really simplify, The Daily Diary of what you are spending on the road.

Write it down:
That tank of gas.
That candy bar you had to have.
That coke you bought.
That trinket for the wife or gf
That pocket knife and chips at the J, u paid to much,u know it.
The food, awh, the food , now that will rile you up.
At the end of 7 days, add up all you spent, yep add it all up from the trinkets to the chewing gum. Do not leave anything out.

IT IS THAT SIMPLE TO SEE WHERE YOU ARE WASTING MONEY OR SAVING MONEY AND HOW TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS SO YOU CAN MAKE IT OUT HERE. imho. its a start..........................

If you have to have them, buy them somewhere besides the truckstop. On sale Wally World or others, maybe use coupons.
When I'm on the road I usually eat at a cafeteria in food stores. Good and Cheaper.

I'm still checking on this but the Wal Marts with gas stations (more and more everyday) have a Wal Mart debit card you can apply for. It gives you a 10c a gallon discount on gas. I paid 2.98 at the South Aiken W/Mart yesterday. That was down from 3.08 credit price. This is SC pricing which is one of the lowest in the country.

Now if you just simply must do the fast food thingee....timing is everything.....say you are doing Warren Ohio to Chicago.....it is all toll road usually...the service centers....you are hungry but you chose Indiana to eat....to me, bad choice...why? Sales tax on junk food....my choice always is Ohio....no tax on your fast food, no tax on that bag of chips...a savings of 7% at least...

When they aren't doing the dime special you get 3 cents a gallon discount using their shopper card. You have to load money onto the card but that's a simple process at checkout. Combine that with a gasbuddy app and you can do fairly well usually.

One of the biggest cutbacks for us was when stopped drinking pop. Even at only one per day for each of us, every day of the year, at an average of $1.79 each was over $1300.00! That nearly pays for the vacation we take.

We have the WM credit card (discover) and we get 5 cent off at every Walmart.
