The catfish story

I planned on taking Mrs. Layoutshooter out on Lake Erie this morning for some walleye fishing. Luckily, because I have such a wonderful understanding of climate change and global warming I knew that Lake Erie is FAR too cold for this time of year, about 6 weeks behind what it should be.

SO

Calling upon a couple of my "other" personas, like "Sage "O" Lake" or "Oh Wise One" I had a back up plan. Going for channel catfish in the hot water out flow of a coal fired plant that is still in operation.

I had everything ready. All our fishing rods rigged the night before. Boat all squared away, and off we went.

Stopped at the bait shop for some large emerald shiners, could not get them, they are not yet available this year. Why? Global warming has the areas they catch them in iced up yet. I bought some leeches and crawlers.

Ran 6 miles over to the plant, boat ran perfect. Found "The Spot" (my paint mark from last season was still on the water) and dropped anchor.

I got out my "secret weapon", otherwise known as "Bag "O" Chum", and hung it over the side. It too about an hour for the chum to do it's job, and the catfish went into a feeding frenzy.

We caught 12 between the two of us.

We also got to watch ducks fly, and an eagle fishing. Lots of other fun things to watch.

All in all a VERY good day.

Then this evening we had catfish nuggets, coleslaw, potato salad for dinner, and butter pecan ice cream for desert. My Dad came over to join us.

(Side note: I will be keeping no more catfish this season. I have all I can use now.)

Cats will keep in the freezer, not as good as fresh but they will survive for awhile. No reason to not target them anymore.
Holloway Dam is good spot for catfish or use to be..Its been a few years since we gone over there. At one time it had the best reports from the DNR for walleye in a inland lake.

Catfish is soooo good..Glad ya had a good day out and a good ending to it with the meal.

LOL on that paint spot..You dropped a buoy on that smart phone didn't you. Are you finally using technology.

Done that Ragman..6th or 7th grade when ya dissect the frogs..Me and a buddy chose to rebuild a cat. Dont think our Mothers didnt go around as to whos freezer got the cat..Mine lost and cat came home with me..His Mom had to boil it down..Best we did was a cat skelton that looked like it already got run over.

I have SPECIAL paint that ONLY works on Lake Erie and only I can see.

I have over 60lbs of catfish. NO more comes home. I am giving some away.

As you can see, my superior abilities on Lake Erie were in full play! Including the capture of "Fishzilla". Don't normally keep fish this size but it was badly played out.
