When I asked about the purpose, benefit and reason for blessing a truck, it was not to ridicule anyone, it was because I wanted to know the purpose, benefit and reason for blessing a truck.
When Diane and I took delivery of our new truck in 2006, our church pastor offered to perform a ceremony in which the truck would be blessed. I was raised in a denomination where such things are not done. I declined our pastor's offer because it just seemed weird. A truck has no mind or soul. It is a machine. It would not know if it has been blessed or cursed. It does not even know if it is being driven or if it is parked.
Bless a truck? I guess it would do no harm, but I am not going to rely on God to keep it running well or accident free. Oil changes and safe driving are my responsibility, not the Lord's.

Can't say that I'm overly religious but I do have strong feelings that having faith--in your choice of whatever it may be--is important.
I'm all for Blessing of the Trucks and look at it like any gathering of a similar nature. It's more about intent and good will and seeing/knowing we're doing somethIng collectively for the greater good of all involved.
Just plain good energy, really.
