Dear Friends,
It is not my desire to contend with anyone, but for those who rave about the food at Garcia's in Columbus, IN...well
I went there for lunch today.
First, I immediately noticed that the majority of the employees were local Hoosiers! Hey, if it's Mexican then the employees should also be Mexican.
Second, I walked in and sat down at a table. After no one came to wait on me I began to look around and watch folks enter in restaurant and walk to a hallway on one side of interior. OK, I got up and stood in line to place my order. They had little menus taped on the wall in the hallway, but I didn't see what I wanted. When I got to the window I asked if they had Chimicangas. They did have them, but is having menus on the tables too much to ask. I felt a little rushed with folks standing behind me.
Third, they don't take plastic! Now I have to walk back to the truck and get my checkbook.
Fourth, I finally am able to actually pay for the meal which was a whooping $14.79. One Chimichanga, a few beans, a little rice, a bowl with some warm bean dip, a handful of chips and a flan for desert. They food was decent and fresh, but it was like eating a glorified snack! Truthfully, the flan was the best part of that meal.
Fifth, the salsa comes in squirt bottles. Duh! Whatever happened to bowls for dipping?
Sixth, they close down during the winter months!
Finally, let me tell you about a place where you can get EXCELLENT AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD that is prepared and served by MEXICANS! You will get a meal that you probably can not finish. Your basket of Salsa Chips will be warm, delicious, crunchy and refilled whenever it it empty!
My favorite is a Triple Fajita with beef, chicken and shimp served sizzling on a cast iron plate. Plenty of beans, rice, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese with Guacamole on top the veggies. All that plus all-you-can-eat Salsa Chips with BOWLS of salsa. They will bring hot and mild salsa to the table.
For desert check out the FRIED MEXICAN ICE CREAM. It is so good it will make your tongue slap your brains out.
These folks began with one restaurant in Dayton, Ohio. They now have three locations. I am inclding the directions for the location that is within one mile of Interstate 75.
I-75 to Exit 44 which is south of Dayton
Turn west onto SR 725 towards Miamisburg
Turn right (north) at the third traffic light onto S. Alex Rd
Turn right (east) at the next intersection onto Watertower Lane
Make an immediate left (north) at the first street. You can see this street runs behind a small strip mall. Straight trucks park down near the north end of the strip mall and vans can go into the parking lot.
El Rancho Grande is at the north end of the strip mall.
PS. You will be so impressed with the food you will probably call me and invite me over for lunch. LOL
