I started with a YMCA membership in Panama City, FL for $37.00/Yr....Great deal!...I was surprised when they went out of business...(G)....
Re-upped in Hollidaysburg, PA for $40.00/Mth and did that for about a year. I really liked it as YMCA's are REALLY easy to find everywhere you go...Wish I could tell you that I used the exercise facilities and pool but this does not seem to be in my genes...
You can join any Y anywhere, so if any of you find a great deal on membership costs let me know and I'd do it again in a NY second....Mean time I seem to get enuf gals at pilot. But any time off or 5 days of no running leaves me showerless.....

A second trick I used often was if I knew I was not gonna run over the weekend, I'd get a Camp site at some local state park...
Usually 10 to 12 bucks a nite, take as many showers as you like, sit by the campfire. More often than not somebody would invite me to dinner...
There are some great parks out there!!
If your a little gutsy....You can "visit" the campground and sneak a shower in...no one is really watching....I did that once, but guilt won out on that one...
Kinda like its really easy to walk into a motel and get free breakfast...easy to get away with but I see Momma's face scowling at me every time the thought crosses my mind.....

I'm with you Hightech...I'll do the campgrounds over truck stops any day.
A lot of parks have day rates as low as three-four bucks for those not staying overnight, and that can be a very inexpensive way to grab a shower and be away from the hubbub of the truck stops. I usually buy annual passes to the state park system in both Michigan and Texas, and a National Park pass as well. They all allow free or greatly reduced passes.
I keep a lightweight sunshade (made of tent material), two expandable aluminum poles, and a couple tent stakes and often rig a canopy from the side of the van whether at a bona fide campground or on boondocking on BLM land. Makes van dwelling a lot nicer come summer.

It sounds like that's a good idea even at a truckstop. Just get a parking spot at a grassy corner.
