Texas Expediting

I will be going to local cc truck drivers training after funding is approved through the TAA guidelines. I have some questions about expedited trucking in Texas.

Would an owner or a company hire me to drive right out of school?
I haven't the money to lease.

Is it possible to run just a region driving expedited so I could get home more often? I really don't want to chase a big check at my age, which is 54.

Thank you for any help or advice.

>could get home more often? No not really. Expedite work isn't regional work!!! unless you find a dedicated run that would allow you to get home daily or even weekly. If you start telling O/O's that are interviewing you, you want to, or you would like to get home every weekend or every week, these O/O's may not want to take a risk, and not hire you at all. I really don't want to chase a big check at >my age, which is 54. To tell it like it is, and to say something you may not want to hear: --- “If your dead set on wanting to drive regional to get home often, right out the box, you may want to find something else to do. Now on the other hand, once you pay your dues and are with a company for a long - long time, you then may be able to pick and choose.” GOOD LUCK

I guess I will find something else to do.

BTW I really didn't care for the "lingo" remark. I just wanted some questions answered. I won't bother you people again.

Old Codger, I guess you've named yourself right, don't be so "touchy touchy", Tony was only giving it to you straight. If you want things sugar-coated, you've come to the wrong place.

Of all the things I've lost in my life, I think I miss my mind the most!!

if he can't take that remark he will go postal when he goes into GM or Ford and gets treated like they treat drivers!!!

hehe, I'd love to be there to see it......

Here is my reply to all of the rest of the replies:

I'm not touchy. I just didn't care for how he said "talk this Lingo"

I heard enough "Lingo" from 1967 to 1969 in Southeast Asia to last me a life time.

I know nothing of expedited trucking and wanted some questions answered.

That's all.

I don't know if anyone else is as confused as I am as to how you got from his "lingo" comment to a reference to Vietnam.. but you just totally lost me.... were you just looking for a reason to bring up your service to our Country (which is appreciated) or just picking something out of the air???

Let me translate... if I may...

His reference to "Lingo"... was in reference to YOU asking if you could drive "regional" in expediting.... he was saying that if you used THAT kind of word, or "LINGO"... in applying for a job with expediting, owners would immediately disregard your application for lack of sincerity, or willingness, or understanding of what Expediting is.

Expediting.. by it's nature.. is 'Anytime, to Anywhere'... you never know if the next company that calls YOUR company will need a load delivered accross town, or to California.. it's impossible to predict.

By telling a prospective owner up front that you prefer 'regional', your choice of words, or 'lingo' tells them you will "PROBABLY" turn down long, ie moneymaking runs.

Is that better?

[font color="red"]Standard disclaimer: The previous comments are simply the ramblings of one long haired grouchy ol fart who has several friends in the Military , and in NO way meant as any disrespect to any Veteran. This grouch was just confused how we got on the Vietnam subject....

My reference to my service meant, and I probably shouldn't have used it, was that we had to listen to "lingo" from 90 day wonders who hadn't even had their boots dirty, but they were issueing orders that got people hurt or worse.

when I saw the word lingo I guess I took it the wrong way. I took it as a smart remark when I only wanted to ask some questions and get some answers. I did not mean to bring up what is in the past and I am sorry if I offended anyone by it.

Sincerly

Codger,

You didn't offend me, I was just confused! :) :) :)

I understand now.. I'm sure Tony didn't mean it as a smart remark, was just trying to explain. And.. just so you know, he's FAR from one of those 90 day wonders fresh in the biz, who try to tell everyone 'the right way'... he's one of the most experienced expediters here.

It's a pretty good group here, and we try our best to be friendly and help, but we don't 'sugarcoat' it like some sites do. You're gonna get the truth here, from people who've 'been there, done that'.. so jump right in, realize that people aren't trying to put you down, or hurt your feelings, they just believe in telling it like it is!

Welcome to the forum sir!

>when I saw the word lingo I guess I took it the wrong way. That word must have been the only word you focused on. The help was there but you must of let the word really get to ya!!! I meant no harm!!! I was only tiring to answer your questions I

You may have other questions to ask. now is the time to ask, Don't wait until you start driving for someone , cause then it may be to late. I did not mean to bring up
