Again I would like to thank everyone for there input. You all have given me things to think about and consider. Greg 334 good point about the automotive and lift gate. Also I think it would be wise as you suggested to try to contact my CC and get some input there. I have talked extensively to our recruiter. Thanks again everyone! Joe

DaveKc: Thanks you for your reply. You have a really good point about the larger box and resale value. Let me know your opinion on this theory. I am thinking that a minority of people want to go with a C-unit because of the shorter truck and lower class of CDL requirement cheaper taxes etc. Example a semi-retired couple in there early 50s just wanting to make a good living until they reach the age where they can draw there pension and 401 with out penalties. This couple doesn’t care for the full 40 foot of truck and hauling 13000#. Now this couple is looking to buy a C-unit under 26000K Gvw. I have been looking for this type of unit for quit awhile with no luck as very few dealers are building them. Never have I found one on a lot already built. I am thinking a really classy but moderately priced unit would be a easy sell. I am truly speculating on this, any comments? Thanks to all that take time to respond! Joe

feel yourself very lucky,99% of the time, fed ex wont dispatch a lift gate truck on a auto parts load to the big three, its against the big three rules, for lift gate trucks,as most cant be locked to the dock.
I know people that have the lift gate just so they dont have to do auto parts, besides,if they are not w/g,they will not use the lift gate, except maybe a transfer load with some solo guy,and in this case wont even get the lift gate money

Bigjoe: The fact that "you can't find one, because nobodys building them" should tell you the whole story. There are very few people like yourself (just killing time before the rocking chair) that would want a pimped out truck like you describe. I would think a viable working truck to produce revenue would (will) be much easier to sell. The vast majority of people in this business actually have to produce an income. build your truck accordingly.

Your question is pretty well answered. Both units cost essentially the same at the beginning. The difference is the demand and resale. Pretty much the reason you wouldn't typically see one on a dealers lot. Too hard to sell as the market for that type of truck would be very limited.

Davekc: Thanks again for your input. After all the replies I think we will to have to redirect our attention to a D-unit. Now with all these used B-units on the market we will have the tough decision to buy a new one or a used one? I think I will start another thread on this subject. Thanks to all who have taken time to respond to my question. Joe

I guess I am lucky but when ever I say who cares about Autoparts, the expediter God punishes me - I had one last night, from the air port in Washington to an auto supplier in Ashville.

My truck was filled with crates, what a pain because the shipper would not put the fork lift on my truck claiming it was too fragile, sure it is and dumping the crates on the end of the truck. At the delivery, they tried to lock the truck and could not lock it but was successful in getting the ramp on the truck. The only problem is that this is my 8th delivery to this place and the first time they had any problems - maybe more punishiment?

It was mentioned that there are lift gates with the bumper that can be locked. See them a lot.

I really hate to ask this but you are only talking six more feet. Thirty four foot of truck compared to forty foot. With the extra income and more available loads better resale and again six more feet.
