The new rule is “science-based and laid out well,” said Don Osterberg, a Schneider National vice president who serves on the hours subcommittee of the American Trucking Associations. “At 378 pages, it’s long, but it’s less confusing.”

Under the old rule, Osterberg said, a split was used by only 5 percent to 6 percent of Schneider teams and an even smaller percentage of Schneider solo drivers. The old rule’s split confused too many truckers and resulted in hours violations, Osterberg said.

Under the new rule, Schneider does not advocate split sleeper berth for its drivers because it sees no advantage to splitting time, Osterberg said.

No advantage to Schneider or its drivers??? Sure... The Great Pumpkin will get more business because the new rules will force more o/os to quit the business... but their drivers are just like everyone else. There aren't too many who drive 11 straight.

If they're so worried about making it easier for us "stupid" drivers to understand, why not go back to the old 10 on 8 off?

How much you wanna bet that idiot never drove a truck? Even if he did, you think he's looking out for the driver or Pumpkin's bottom line? Can you say conflict of interest?

Schnieder`s position is exactly the same reason big business I.E. US Chamber of Commerce,ATA,Walmart, etc. It is to squeege every drop of uncompensated work out of drivers.

Jimmy Hoffa, Joan Claybrook, and OOIDA is not buying it.

was the expedite industry involved in the latest rule making? there were many inputs to the new rule...but none from the expediting companies that i could find. what happened? seems to me that expediting companies needed to raise their voices a little louder to be considered. or even say something. Just In Time trucking was formulated to answer our government's tax rules reguarding inventory and sq ft taxes and location taxes. as a business mgmt tool it has been very successful, maybe instead of questioning the trucking industry, how about asking our customers...those who depend on time sensitive deliveries to minimize costs, downtime and add to the bottom line. bet they don't want to lose the expedite industry. our sector in trucking is most affected by these rules and we shouldn't let others speak for us!

i have read the EO article. great start. but where were FedEx, Conway, Express 1, Panther and others during the rulemaking meetings? They need to demand seats at the meetings to inform the rulemakers of the impacts to our end of trucking.

as i recall reading in the ruling schneider stated that they as a company could lose about 250 million in revenue due to less efficient team operations with the new ruling. but that didn't have much weight with the ruling, did it.

a slowdown in the economy due to the new rules might effect change....or maybe the do-good-er groups like PATT, CRASH and others will do for us now what we didn't do for ourselves
