I'm sure many are already doing this but for any who haven't thought of it yet here's a suggestion. Pick up a pair of small GMRS radios like these: Cobra GMRS/FRS 2-Way Radio Value Pack with 8-Mile Range - Wal-Mart
When one goes into the shipper and finds out which dock number to back to they can radio the other and not have to hike back out to the truck. They're also useful when one is backing and the other is watching/guiding.

If I was teaming I've thought of using something like that too. Team mate is in the truck stop or walmart--"come on we got a load." Guess a lot of people use their cellphones that way.

We use them all the time; at truck stops to tell one where the truck is parked after fueling while the other is inside, at shopping malls when we split up for some "me time" and a load offer comes in on one of our phones, at the truck when one is outside assisting the other in backing up, at places where one of us might be conversing with another driver and needs information that the other has or knows, even at home when I'm out working on the truck and Diane calls to let me know dinner is ready.

If we lost the set we have, we'd make a special trip to quickly replace them.

I think that would be a good idea...especially for telling the other person what dock to go into. Today I went in to a place that was at an auto plant, and the door was halfway around the building. It would have been nice to just radio outside to the truck to my husband! I don't mind walking, but sometimes it's too cold or too wet!

We use our cell phones for the same thing as the walkie talkie. We have Verizon and
can talk unlimited to each other.

Phones certainly can work however they are sometimes less convenient to use. Also, there are places where they aren't allowed either because of the signal or the camera now in all of them. Once in a while their signal goes out when deep inside a big box store. There are times when an inexpensive set of radios are handy.

Leo, this is a great point! We have a set of radios, but didn't use them because we had our phones. Next time we're home, I'll be digging them out again. :)

We usually use our phones and a head set when helping one another to back into a tight spot or down a tight ally. We used to use the walkie talkie but found them to be cumbersome to use and frustrating to us.
