Wow...I was a tornado spotter for a few years, and never saw anything as dramatic as that.

I've witnessed tornados traveling in a relatively straight path, slow down and stop, take a 90 degree turn right for a trailer park, and then go back to where they were and continue on.

Not to downplay the trauma of tornado victims, but I found the praying woman in the first video to be interesting as her prayer was interspersed with speaking in tongues. It is a common practice among some fundamentalist sects in Appalachia and the rural South. I have never heard anyone speaking in tongues outside of a church setting.

In a related story, here's a really bad headline penned by an editor:

"Toddler found after twister dies in hospital"

It reads as if a twister visited the hospital and died, and then they later found a toddler. Good grief.

Unfortunately, it was the toddler who died. The 14-month-old toddler and her parents were laying in the hallway of their trailer, holding hands and praying, as a neighbor tried to convince them to exit the small trailer and take cover in the neighbor's much larger trailer. Before the neighbor could help them out, however, the tornado sucked him and the family out. The neighbor survived with several broken bones. The toddler's parents, Joe and Moriah Babсoсk, died instantly; so too did her brother Jaydon, 2 years, and sister Kendall, 2 months. The toddler, Angel Babсoсk, was found 150 yards from where her parent's house once stood. She was alive, but barely. Doctors and grandparents finally decided to remove Angel from life support due to the severity of her injuries.

Stop it. You totally made that up, [you had me up until "go back to where they were"] and it made me laugh, and there's nothing funny about tornadoes killing people.
I'm going to hell, and it's your fault.

Well, partially made up. I've seen them stop and turn and go right after a trailer. Seen it twice. I swear there's something about trailers that attract them. :D

Last summer I watched one similar to the one in the video above begin to form, then form and drop down, do some damage to two houses, go back up and move two blocks, and then suddenly drop down again and take out half a dozen trailers. It happened just outside of Murray, while I watched it live on the local news from the camera mounted atop one of the dorms at Murray State.

I've also seen the roof of a house get ripped right off it, while I was in it. That was fun.

That happened to me when I was a spotter. Parked at a fire hall overlooking a farmer's field and one formed right in front of me, heading straight for me. Had it not picked itself up, I might have had a chance to hit the ditch but not enough time to run in and warn the firemen. Over my shoulder was Sioux City, IA, which got creamed by that cell that evening.

Mobile homes seem to be a 'favorite food' for tornadoes. Mobile home parks are a favorite 'feeding area'. Tornadoes NEVER hit mobile home factories. They know better than to hit the hand that feeds them.

There was a time when far more people who lived in 'tornado country' had storm shelters than do today. I know that they still make them. I wonder why so many choose to not take advantage of them?

Tornadoes are awesome, terrible storms. They can be beautiful to watch, as are all of natures events. I have had the opportunity to see several in my day. Lucky enough to be by passed by a wide enough margin to not be injured.

Those people who's lives were changed in a second during these storms are in our prayers.
