... WE are professionals...let me say that again, PROFESSIONALS...as much as any Doctor, Brain Surgeon, Lawyer ever thought of being, so we ought to know better! ...
That's just it. Every so often, someone starts a thread here in the Open Forum about professionalism. Members quickly jump in to talk about how professional they are and what it means to be a professional. Yet some of those same people talk in this thread about getting even. That is not professional. No one who intentionally commits an unsafe act on the road can rightfully claim to be a professional driver.
Professional drivers maintain a safety mindset at all times. They think ahead not about ways to get even or do combat with other vehicles, about about ways to stay safe when other drivers are not driving safe around them. When a negative event develops, they react in accordance with their rehearsed thoughts and mindset ... slow down, changes lanes, forget it and drive on (FIDO), etc.
If you are running get-even thoughts or memories through your mind now, you are increasing the likelihood that you will react poorly when the next negative event develops.
Think about what you are thinking about, and then think about things that will keep you and others safe on the road.
This is something anyone can do. For example, if you typically react with anger when someone cuts you off, think ahead of time about reacting in a different way. Think now about how you will react the next time. Then when it happens, try to react without anger and with safety foremost on your mind. Rehearse the event in your mind now. Imagine now how it will look and feel when you forget it and drive on when you are next cut off.
Instead of cussing about that no-good so-and-so and letting your blood boil, think FIDO and take satisfaction in the fact that you were the professional who saved that driver's life today.
To change your behavior tomorrow and become a professional in every sense of the word, change your mind today.
