TA Phone Kiosks

We bought one of the new Silverado blue tooth headsets in Mississippi at a TA. Within a week we can no longer adjust the volume and tried to exchange the headset at a TA in North Carolina. The new phone kiosks are independently owned and we were informed you have to return any purchases to the original store.

We have one Silverado headset we really like so all we really want to do is exchange the headset for the same thing.

This makes absolutely no sense to me on why a TA would have this type of outfit in their stores.

Doesn't sound smart considering we don't end up in the same place on a regular basis. You should really check out Amazon.com you can buy just about everything, free shipping most of the time and great return policy

When you do not get home often it is much easier to buy on the road then to order.

The thread was a heads up for anyone that might consider buying a headset or any other accessory from these guys.

Those T/S Kiosks are rarely part of any chain, which is no guarantee that adjustments will be made at another location.

If Amazon shipments to home are not a good option, better stick with chains like Radio Shack, Best Buy etc.

It amazes me that anyone would buy anything at a t/s,unless you were using your fuel points.

Much better deals can be found just about anywhere else at the national chain stores, and much easier to exchange.I'm just sayin'.

Of those two, Radio Shack is far better, IMO, as far as returns [if you pay with a credit/debit card]. Best Buy won't allow you to determine that the product is in fact correct, unless you pay for it. If it turns out to be incorrect, they refund the money to your card - a process that takes several days, [inexcuseable in the day of instant debits, IMO] and can be a real headache if the promised credit doesn't appear.
Radio Shack is happy to make sure the product is what you need before you buy it - good deal. :)

True, but if you're AT the truck stop, whats it going to cost to drive a D unit to the mall?

Seems like its a license to sell crap, knowing full well most of your customers won't come back to complain.

The ONLY time we are EVER at a t/s is for fuel, other than that it's a wally world or some other shopping area parking lot.

Those truckstops are dangerous places, one wrong move from a billybigrigger trying to park his truck, and you are out of business.

I for one am very glad to see this post as I was just looking and considering buying a bluetooth headset from the TA. The headset I was looking at fits over the head whereas the one I have just fits over the ear. My hubby loves the ear piece but I can't hear good and have to hold it to my ear which of course defeats the purpose of 'hands free'. So I was just checking out the over the head one. It is over 100.00 so I decided to 'think' about it first. One of those "hmmmm, do I really need it?, If I do REALLY need it, do I really want to pay that much for it?. So luckily I decided to hold off to see if I regretted not getting it. Well now I don't regret it at all and I am not going to buy it.:eek:

It's "buyer beware", not TA's fault. With all of the discounts made available through Fed Ex with the name brand cell phone services, it "makes absolutely no sense to me" why anyone would buy equipment anyplace else!

Linda,
Whats wrong with FedEx Kinkos? Just order it online from Amazon, have it shipped to one of the FedEx Kinkos near a drop, have them hold it and pick it up. I've done this several times....... and even shipped things out with my massive discount (I miss that).

If they have it in stock and it can ship 2nd day, there you go.....

Greg, We had issues shipping to Fed Ex Kinkos in Johnson City, TN. They could not figure out why the box was shipped to them, opened it up, saw it was uniforms, and shipped it back to the uniform shipper. They didn't really even offer an apology - just an explanation and the facts! lol

We have had really good luck returning stuff to Pilots and in one case they took an exchange for a defective item when we only returned half of the package contents (a radio antenna).

We've had great results returning items to Wallyworld and Best Buy. Usually no questions asked. We're not talking cheap stuff either. In one case, we purchased a 26" LCD tv from Wallyworld in New York and returned it forty days later to Tennessee for a full refund. We used it a few times and decided it was not what we wanted.

Sorry, I thought about it before I read your post.

When I used to do this, I would always call to talk to the manager or supervisor, tell them who I am and ask them if I can have something shipped there and if they will hold it for me. Out of something like 25 or 30 shipments, I never had that problem.

The only problem I had was with the massive discounts, I tried to get on the local FedEx Kinkos "Family and Freinds" discount but no go, just the massive standard discounts.

By the way I have used the UPS store a bit too, they will help a traveler out.

Ah, the good old days. I joined Fedex last Labor Day. We were told about the ATT savings in orientation. What we weren't told was that it went away in August so September was too bad, so sad. There might be a way to still get in the program as a new person but it's supposed to only be for whoever was already on it before it went away. At least that's the "official" word I got when I looked into it.

I do not believe there are anymore discounts on phone service through the FCC discount program.

The thread was not meant just for FCC contractors but for anyone thinking of buying at a TA even when the price is right.

Linda, I don't know about phone equipment but we do get a discount from Verison. All we had to do was show our FedEx contrator badge. :D

Get the discount while you can as this is no longer one of our discounts. The new contractors cannot get on any of the phone discount plans we had so if you have the discount keep it!

Why would the AT&T discount be going away? FedEx doesn't pay for it, other carriers have it, did FedEx use some excuse for it to go away?

I suspect the phone carriers dropped them not FX. They are not taking discounts away from anyone who already has them in place, just not offering them to new people. I checked with Verizon about it and was told none available. I don't know anything official, just thinking who gains by taking away discounts and that's the side receiving more money which isn't FX.

I'm glad to have the reminder to check about return policies before buying anything at truckstops. I might not have thought of that every time without a reminder.
