System change/enhancement

Drivers have often been reluctant to take a short load as they do not want to lose "position" on the board. At the same time they do not want to be seen as turning loads down or not wanting the good revenue on the short run. Dispatch will often tell a driver that they will not drop them but this is a manual process and is often missed with so many staff and shift changes.

As of today we have implemented a new enhancement with our dispatch software. If a unit runs a load that is under 75 miles the "LA" time will not reset. This should leave the unit in the same place or higher than when he took the short load. This is also where the information on the mac 19 is derived from.

Thanks to Don Baker Jr. in unit 239 for the suggestion! :D

Well I cannot speak for another carrier, but it was not something the system could just do. We had to go back and pay for custom programming to get it done. Anything is generally possible, but it is all about the DOLLAS, LOL. :D

I was informed it was a programming issue and had a cost...guess the shareholders wanted their cut first?...*lol*

Anything is generally possible when you CARE enough to get it done.

Gotta love this place.:D

Thanks John and Don. One less phone call to make and tie up dispatch. Some carriers just don't get it. If you can reduce the calls the drivers have to make into dispatch for corrections, the more time dispatch has for all of us to be more productive with less stress and aggravation. Win win for everyone.
Settlements are running smooth, tolls, layover and detention are being paid in a timely manor.
QC is tweeked, no reason to call anymore. Well maybe once in a while to say thanks.
Sure your gonna have those quirky loads once in a while where you gotta call, but that is not the norm.
Life is good!
Your best bet, hire a vet! Please.

YES, Thank you very much John, unfortunately I got the word after just turning a short load down. Load had good revenue but no prospects after unloading. My son, Don Jr., actually was talking with you about this issue and made the suggestion. Now, if we can figure out a way for dispatchers to communicate deals and messages back and forth after shift changes we will be flying high my friend. I cannot count the number of times that I get the answer "well no one told me that!".

Also, a new suggestion....this one should be easy and free. Would it be possible to have a spot where we could log in under a individual password to receive company messages and policy changes at? Most changes are made and we only hear about them as we experience issues or word of mouth from other drivers out on the road. It would be nice to be able to log in and get all the company news and changes as they occur. The password would keep other company drivers out of our private area and not subject us to their comments or opinions. Just a thought....................Crapshooter

Awesome! I love local runs, because it helps to bring the total pay per mile up throughout the month, or week.Thank you for caring so much, in everything you do for us, and me.

I can sure look into that. Right now it is a little spread out. Memo's, here, facebook and fleetvision. I will have to look at Fleetvision so more in detail and see the pro's and con's of it and see if we can enhance that if needed.

QC and Fleetvision should be able to cover it. A fleet message on the QC for policy changes, although fleet messages don't show up on my Fleetvision screen. Also, there is a "Notes" section when load offers are sent to the trucks that could take any deals or messages regarding the load and who made them. These messages can be read on Fleetvision.

Fleetvision also has a section that will tell the owner if a load is turned down and the reason given if dispatch can fill that out. There is also a section that will give the reason a truck is out of service. However, the reasons for being o/s are not always given. This would tell the owner if the reason is for hours or if it is something that the driver needs to be contacted about.

I think everything that Shooter mentions can be accomplished with systems already in place.
