If you had no more than 32' or so I would thing it would be a single axle trailer. If building it brand new I might look into putting the axle 3-4' forward from the rear to leave room for a tuck under liftgate, as well as further helping with turns. I believe the issue with pups is they respond more quickly to inputs so you have to practice to be smooth with it and to not overshoot your intended spots.

If you go to a single axel trailer wouldn't that defet the reason for the longer trailer?

I know - longer trailer means more freight but shouldn't it mean heavyer freight (if avalible) also?

If you have a single axel would you have to put dollies on the back?

I looked at 12k, 34k, and 20k axle capacities from front to back with single axle trailer and got 66k minus weight of equipment. If I had a Volvo 770 with absolutely all the bells and whistles and every book I could read in a year plus who knows what other junk of mine in it I don't think I could get it over 21k on the scale and probably something below 20k. I don't know what the trailer would weigh but pulled 8k out of the air so I figured with a single axle trailer it would have somewhere around a 38k capacity. Even if I'm way off it should have at least a 32-34k capacity. The second axle on the trailer is 4 more tires to buy and one level higher tolls to pay for probably marginal additional return.
