Stuttering Bartender

A few days ago I bellied up to a bar ... the bartender approached and said…
“wha wha what can I get you?” I ordered a vodka and tonic and thought to myself… what courage! A man who stutters working as a bartender! I was engaging him in further conversation when a very large man came to the end of the bar and yelled out…
“HEY JACKASS>>> GIVE ME A BEER”
I looked at the bartender and asked “are you going to let him talk to you like that?
The bartender smiled at me and said “ Aww Heaww Heaww He always call me that !

Thanx for showing your denseness before I had a chance. I reread that one several times and never got it. Maybe it works better spoken than written.
