Stupid or Dangerous?

Obama is either stupid, or dangerous, or both. He continues to gut the military and intelligence agencies at a time when our long time enemies, enemies of all mankind, Russia and China are building up their ability to attack the United States.

There is no doubt that what is going on is dangerous, the only question that remains to be answered is whether or not these moves are a deliberate attempt to insure that we are no longer able to defend ourselves against the evil. I believe it is. Obama is advancing his beliefs.

[h=1]Texas Senator Cornyn Demands Answers on Russian Sub in Gulf of Mexico[/h]

According to the Houston Chronicle, Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, has written a letter to the Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Jonathan Greenert, about reports that a Russian attack submarine operated in the Gulf of Mexico in June and July undetected.

Report of Russian attack submarine in the Gulf of Mexico

Bill Gertz, a longtime military analyst, broke the original story in the Washington Free Beacon. According to his sources, an Akula class attack submarine operated freely and without detection in the Gulf of Mexico for several weeks in June and July. That the Akula's presence in the Gulf of Mexico was determined only after she had left the area exposes deficiencies in the United StatesNavy's anti-submarine warfare capabilities. Gertz notes that the Obama defense budget calls for the scrapping of 10 P-8 anti submarine warfare jets that could be used to detect and, if necessary, sink submarines such as the Akula. Shipbuilding has also been drastically reduced under Obama administration defense plans.

Akula attack sub advanced

According to Naval Technology.com, the Russian Navy is known to have 14 Akula class submarines, some designated as Akula 1 and some, more advanced and stealthy, the Akula 2. It is unknown at this time whether the submarine that operated in the Gulf of Mexico was an Akula 1 or an Akula 2. The main armament of an Akula are 12 SS-N-21 cruise missiles with a range of 3,000 kilometers and with a 200 kiloton nuclear warhead. The Akula is also equipped with a number of anti-ship and anti-aircraft missiles, the former of which can also be nuclear-tipped. The submarine also has the capability to launch torpedoes and anti-ship mines. The Akula is nuclear powered with a diesel reserve power system.

Cornyn's letter demands answers

Cornyn, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has demanded an explanation of the press reports of the submarine incursion, which was apparently accompanied by Russian bomber flights in restricted American airspace. Cornyn points out, as does the account in the Washington Free Beacon, that the Russian military operations so close to American shores constitutes a new, aggressive military stance being conducted by the government of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Cornyn goes on to express concerns about Obama administration budget cuts that, in his view, will seriously hamper the ability of the United States military to respond to such incursions.

Pentagon says reports Russian Akula in Gulf of Mexico don't hold water.

MOSCOW TIMES: Observers on Thursday cast doubt on a news report that a Russian nuclear submarine traveled undetected for up to a month in the Gulf of Mexico, while the U.S. Pentagon denied the story and the Russian Defense Ministry kept mum.

The Washington Free Beacon, which broke the story Tuesday, also refuted allegations that the report was driven by U.S. presidential campaign politics rather than facts.

“We stand by our story,” the site's publisher, Michael Goldfarb, said by telephone. He added that he was “kind of offended” by accusations that the report reflected partisan politics.
{Which is hilarious when you consider what's on the "About Us" page of the Washington Free Beacon}

Analysts speculated that the news leak was “scaremongering” intended to discredit President Barack Obama's policies of defense cuts and the “reset” in relations with Moscow.

The Beacon report said that the submarine patrol highlights Moscow's growing assertiveness and exposed deficiencies in U.S. anti-submarine warfare capabilities, which are threatened by the Obama administration’s plans to reduce defense spending.

The nonprofit news site was founded in February by the Center for American Freedom, a Washington-based conservative advocacy group chaired by Goldfarb.

The group says on its website that the Free Beacon is “dedicated to uncovering stories that the professional left hopes will never see the light of day.”

Goldfarb worked on the 2008 presidential campaign of Republican Senator John McCain.

The U.S. Defense Department on Thursday denied the Beacon report, which said a Russian Akula-class submarine capable of carrying long-range ballistic missiles had spent a month in restricted U.S. waters in June and July.
“I don't know what that information was based on, but it was not correct," spokeswoman Wendy Snyder said, according to Interfax. The Pentagon did not respond to telephoned and e-mailed requests for further comment. A Defense Ministry spokesman said Thursday that questions should be submitted in writing. The ministry had not responded by Thursday evening.

Experts said that while Akula-class vessels are among the quieter submarines, they are still relatively easy to detect because they are nuclear-powered.

“They are unable to sit silently because their reactor cannot be turned off,” said Christian Le Miere, a naval analyst at the International Institute for Strategic Studies.

Le Miere added that while it was possible the vessel escaped detection by U.S. Coast Guard sonar, this was unlikely because of its size.

“A submarine of nearly 10,000 tons cannot easily enter coastal waters, where it is harder to detect,” he said.

His comments were echoed by Alexander Nikitin, a former nuclear submarine officer who heads the Bellona environmental group. He said Akula-class ships have always produced a great deal of noise. "The problem was always there, and no technical breakthrough has been achieved,” he said.

He added that while a vessel could enter the Gulf of Mexico undetected, it was unlikely to remain there for weeks. “I am very skeptical about that report,” he said.

Alexander Kolbin, an analyst with the PIR Center think tank, said doubts would remain about the story as long as it remained unconfirmed by either government.
“Either the ship was discovered or it is a ploy by the Republicans to discredit Obama's defense cuts,” he said.

The O team is both dangerous and stupid. The entire cabinet has 0 experience in military affairs and they are shutting down our Military. That's evident in Afganastan and it was that way in Viet Nam. Both Sr. Bush and G.W Bush let the Generals do their job and we were safe and people did not mess with us. Now as well as when Monica Lowinski was in office, oh wait, Bill Clinton was in office they chose to just let go. Clinton had the chance to get O Soma Bin Laden but chose to let it go. I can go on and on but it's just plain politics. Want to be safe or at least go after the bad guys, don't vote for the Dem.

The big bad wolf stories are probably perpetrated by all 3 major powers....especially the military contractors that stand to lose 100's of billions of dollars if there is no paranoia...IMO

It's not Russia or China we need to worry about, it's those sketchy nuns!

Seriously, it's Congress we need to be holding responsible. As they just demonstrated yet again, they're more interested in partisan politics than our security. After the disgraceful refusal to pass a cybersecurity bill, I think they should be forced to remain at work until they actually DO some work for a change.

The problem is that it sorta fits with the moves that the Soviets are making Eastern Europe again. The same reason that has 2 Stryker Brigades in Georgia and just had part of one in Romania.

I have a much simpler task for them, one mandated by law. A budget .....

This has nothing to do with cyber security. Why worry about cyber security when they can't secure the borders? We just let who ever wants to sneak in, do so. They may be able to cause a lot of problems with cyber attacks, BUT, the scum sneaking in can kill. The Democrats, generally speaking have ALWAYS fought spending that protected the Nation. The Republicans were normally SLIGHTLY better at that. Obama would welcome the Soviets if they came in. He is one with them. He believes in their ideas, he was mentored by them. He is part of the evil.

Neither did the link I posted describing how a nun managed to get past 3 fences to enter an ultra secure facility. That incident is factual, unlike the one you posted.

Why worry about cyber security when they can't secure the borders?

Because computers control everything, and the hackers aren't all benign geeks anymore.

We just let who ever wants to sneak in, do so. They may be able to cause a lot of problems with cyber attacks, BUT, the scum sneaking in can kill.

If you don't think unauthorized access to computers can have deadly consequences, you need to join this century.

I guess you never get tired of saying the same things, but I [for one] get tired of reading them. Your statements regarding Obama are just flat out loony tunes.

Well, don't read them then! You are not REQUIRED to read them! I don't read most of what you post, same for scottm4211! LOL!! IF and WHEN your reading my posts becomes mandatory I will not change them! Obama was mentored by Marxists, he is a Marxist and 100% of all Marxists, or those who agree with even 1% of their ideas, are evil! It are how it are.

I will NEVER change my mind on the evils of Marxism/socialism or fascism, UNLESS, someone can PROVE to me that those who lead those kind of countries in the 20TH and the first part of this century did NOT MURDER a hundred MILLION or so! I guess that cover both the EXTREME RIGHT: and EXTREME left as described by today's standards. Obama IS a Marxist. Again, it are how it are. A donkey can't change his stripes no matter how hard he tries!

To deliberately ignore is to be ignorant - no thanks. I will continue to read what you write, because sometimes, I learn something from it. Conservation, for example: you have some very good points to make on that subject. and I enjoy reading what you have to say about it.
But when the subject is Obama, you simply repeat the same things [Marxist! Hates America! Doesn't understand the military! Wants to control us all!] that have zero basis in fact. Over & over & over again, and then again.
I know you can't change your stripes, so I limit myself to mentioning it just once every 100 times you repeat the same comments - because I'm all about compromise. Today, anyhow.

IF and WHEN you finish a history of the so-called "Cold War" feel free to call me. Compromise, in my prior and present world, is a sign of no convictions. One either believes in what believes in, or they don't. One either has the courage of one's convictions or they don't. There is NO in between. I will be happy to give my life to prevent the horror that is Marxism from taking hold n the United States, are you? It has started. Either you are willing to die to stop it, or you must therefor agree with it! There is NO compromise, no in between.

My beliefs are based on 20 years of real life experience. It will take a LOT to change my mind. By the way, I was NOT talking about my stripes, I was talking about that scum bag, Marxist, Obama. He are who he are. HE is the enemy, HE is the one who will build the camps, HE is the one who will follow Jackson and Roosevelt, NOT I. HE is, what they WERE, DEMOCRATS and MARXISTS! You are welcome to throw Lincoln in with that den of scum if you like!
