When I was in my Freightliner M2 I never went below 10.5 mpg. I drove 60 mph max. Team drivers drove 9.5 at best and they drove as fast as they could make the truck go.

i forgot to add that my mpg includes my rigmaster idle time also. no separate tank so ya gotta include it.

I am surprised one of you boys haven't come up with an in-line fuel meter for your reefers, so you could monitor how much it really burns...

We run a '07 Freightliner Columbia, 10 speed auto w/ MB4000/ 425hp. Just breaking it in with 360,000 miles.
A DR that tips the scales at 31,000.
8.5 to 9.25 is normal for us. We are speed controlled and cannot
exceed 65 mph.
We have a Genset apu and Carrier 850.
All feed off the main tanks and therefore affect the mpg.

I wonder why people keep spec'ing reefer trucks with single fuel tanks, it makes no sense to have one tank to feed three engines while you can't figure out what amount of fuel is being used by which engine and then pay taxes on it because it is all being bought on the same pump.

As piper mentioned in another thread, look at the engine ECM fuel usage and that will give you about the right number. BUT I want to know where to get a reader under $350?

I would not spec one this way. It came like this, it was a repo.

Well Layout I know one fleet owner with Fedex who spec'ed his trucks with one tank for each and every truck, even the new ones he put on the road a few months ago. It seems with his fleet and his position with FedEx, he wouldn't second guess the tax advantages with a second tank but it has to do with luck and his *********

That is his choice, it would not be mine if I was specing a new truck.
