Good Evening,
Have been trolling the forums for months now and have started to get more serious about an idea. Several years ago I owned a small dump truck business hauling blacktop for several state/federal highway jobs. Never drove, just hired drivers (had both good and bad). I changed jobs, moved states and ended up selling my business. Now I am looking to get back into the transportation industry and the expediter van idea has peaked my interest.
I have this idea to buy a van, or 2, and be a fleet owner only, not having me drive. I have read through the forums and know the margins are slim, at times there is more capacity than demand. I get it. I am blessed to have a full time job that pays my bills, so it is not as if I need to live off the profits from day one. I just enjoy the trucking industry and running small businesses.
So am I nuts? Is the headache of having a driver not worth the 40% cut (given the whole 60/40 split model) of which I still have to pay expenses?
Thanks for your thoughts.
