Sprinter Vans

Being more of a car based engine, if I owned a Sprinter I would add 100k mile timing chain replacements to my own maintenance schedule. That $500 could be a very small price to pay instead of taking a much more expensive gamble. It will for sure be added to the shop manual maintenance schedule if a pattern of failures is recognized with the vans here in North America.

Weave makes an excellent point with the extra appointment for the timing chain replacement. I have yet to hear of this problem, but better safe than sorry! I've heared of EGR problems, transmission, rear-end, brake, and electrical system problems...and several guys I've talked to have had all of these problems...many of them curse Freightliner (not going to repeat it here!)...on the other hand, I've talked to some Sprinter owners who have had no problems what-so-ever. Perhaps it's a Monday/Friday thing????

Just to let you all know that we have went over 300,000 miles the van is still going good we had the transmission fluid changed and that helped out with the shifting problem. no other problems to list i might need to get a wind shield as it has a big crack in it. The van is still averaging 22mpg we slowed down a little over the holidays but are back in action and eating up the miles Jim
