Just an update. I ran into a glitch and it looks like I will continue the paperwork and such to retire. It was a small glitch and not the fault of my carrier but I'm stubborn so it's a glitch. They require a Nextel phone to communicate with dispatch and I really hate Nextel. I don't like the spotty coverage or that scratchy speaker that is difficult to understand. I especially don't like announcing my conversation to everyone within earshot. Nextel would not let me reactivate my phone without signing a new 2 year contract so I told em to take a hike. I know it's a small thing and it's only a $200 penalty if I cancel before the 2 years are up but I refuse to do it. I don't want a new phone and I don't want Nextel telling me what to do. If they improve their product so that I feel I need it, then I may let them dictate business terms. ........Maybe. ........ Did I ever mention that I don't care much for Nextel??? At least I can retire. I'd probably see this differently if I were younger or the business outlook was better..

Well I did it. I'm back out here, "Sorta". I no more than got back out on the road with two loads under my belt and I got the crud. I normally can work through a case of crud, slash cold, slash flu, but this time wow. Never had a bug hit me so hard. I ran for home with my tail between my legs. It really knocked the pegs out from under me.

I know you are out on the road now however, instead of signing a 2 year contract with nextel you can just use Boost, there is no contract all you need to do is buy a card from any convenient store. You pay only $1.00 a day for unlimited use and if you happen not to get beeped or beep anyone you dont get charged for that day, just like a phone card. Do not use this as a phone it will cost you dearly only push button talk.

Hey Fastman, I have seen a lot of old vans out there lately and some of them really look bad. I can't believe yours would be rejected if they saw it. Last time I saw it, it looked fine.
I can't believe this crud ... I still have it and it's bad. It's been with me for a week now and I may feel good enough to go back out there later today or tomorrow. I had pneumonia ( we need a spell check) once and I didn't feel as bad as I felt last tuesday and wednesday.

I don't think you can get the crud from pumkin pie, even from Flying J. Just take a lot of vitamin C because if I was exposed to it there, so were you. Hope you don't get this one though. It's the meanest and baddest crud I ever had. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Yea it's still in good shape, and wouldn't think twice about driving it to the west coast or anywhere.

He's back in service and must be out since he hasn't responded. I'll act as his spokesman. His company said it would be fine to use the phone he has instead of direct connect.

I really do like the winter and driving in it doesn't bother me at all. Call me an idiot but I couldn't live where it's warm all the time. I like the seasons and I really don't like it when it gets real hot. When I retire for real, it's the U.P. for me. God's area code is 906 and I'd like to join him there. The pull of the road is getting very strong so I may be out there before very long. Then my tagline will return. Right now I'm somewhere.
PS> Cheri, I hate gloves too. I just need my hands to breathe. Oh, and holler anytime. I live less than 5 miles from the only truck stop in Grand Rapids MI.

What part of the UP? I live 20 miles south of Watersmeet, MI. in my pre retirement home.

That area is great but my family likes the area around Tahquamanon river mouth and up to the Big Two Heart. That would be near Paradise MI. I like the western UP but this area is many hours closer to Grand Rapids and right on Lake Superior. Lots of Deer, some bear and even a few moose. There's supposed to be lots of fish there too but I must be using the wrong lures. (dynamite maybe???) It's also an easy day trip to Sault Ste Marie so I can get my great lakes ship fix. Love them big boats and the salmon fishing in the St Marys River.
