If all the paperwork clears, my 17 year old grandson will attend boot camp at FT Benning , Ga this summer. After boot camp , he returns home and finishes high school. After high school he does Advance Infantry Training or AIT. Then college as I understand it and Uncle Sam picks up that tab.

We will see. Like I said , waiting for all the paperwork to clear...I have 5 grandsons in all. 4 of the 5 are all brothers. Ages 19 to 12.

Well, it's going to be a long time till college is over, lots of things can happen, I will be 74 by then..............mercy I will be young.

Outstanding! I did the exact same thing including Benning, although they helped out with a small percent of college they didn't actually pay for it.

Well it was a bit ago. We had the M16a1. At the end of my career we got the new m16a2.

I kinda like the A1 version better than the A2. The A1 version had no 3 rounds burst control, you can empty a 30 rounds clip in about 5 sec. That was fun:)

Agreed. But the three round burst made it easier to stay on target as barrel would drop back down during next trigger pull. Full auto people tend to slowly raise up.

You are absolutely correct. That was one of the reasons the Army went to A2. Other problems were wasting of the ammunitions, weapon jamming due to overheating and potential for dangerous ammunition "cook off."

Though, it was kinda cool to see a platoon lined up and cut trees with the A1 version. Certainly, there's no need for the machete to clear the jungle, lol :)
