Speedco

Well, I know we had a long discussion recently about how they were cheating people at various Speedco stores. We are shocked at the way Speedco decided to resolve this issue. We are right now pulling out of the one in Oklahoma City without having our oil changed. They have DOUBLED the price for straight trucks since they say we have a big engine. Before they charged us extra for additional oil but now they are charging double for the oil change. Some solution, huh? Their home office says, "Sorry but that is the way it is now and we certainly hate to lose you as a customer but we understand." Shocking!

Speedco will continue to see my business.

I use them on occasion when I drive private motorcoaches.
I have used them for big truck work.
Look at what you wrote, you said you used to get charged extra for more oil, now instead, you get charged twice the cost of the old prices... compare those prices, I bet those numers will be interesting.
I rarely use them for PM work, as I can usually get that done at home. Most of the time, if they're gettin' my business it's to use them for Generator oil changes, I carry my own oil and filters.
Sure I can do it, and most of the time I do.
But, It's quick. it's cheap.
and I'm still gettin' my 40 bucks for the generator service.

Regarding the comment on the big engine in a straight truck...
simply put: it's a truck, it's a diesel engine.

Why would they treat you any different than an 18 wheeler?
because they haul more freight?

Look at it from the other side of the coin, the business side...
You probably run the same amount of miles an 18 wheeler runs.
You use the same kind"S" of diesels and oils a "big engine" uses.

Straight trucks are commercial vehicles, and...
they're trucks that haul freight.

Now, from a motorcoach standpoint, we get charged the same as a big truck... except on an entertainer coach's generator.

Sorry, but you won't get sympathy here.

Here's questions for you...
How much oil does your "big engine" use?
and how much oil does a typical Detroit, Cummins, or Cat use???

This Post should be moved to Truck Talk.

Big Bob, I cannot ever remember dissagreeing with you until now.

Last week I had a service done at the Perrysburg location. I also just compared my invoice from the same location that I had done on March 25, 06 almost six months to the day.

Price increases were not announced to me and I felt I got cheated for the following price increases. They even pulled up my bill to compare filters etc...

March price for a #64 straight truck on my bill was 104.99
# 64 generator service base cost 15.99

Total for the service was $158.79 very fare price in my opinion.
This also included a gallon of Lucas.

Now they credited me $4.00 for not taking the extra gallon of oil with me.

Dec 06

#59 Mid Range PM ???? what ever the difference between 59 & 64 is, the amount went up to 119.99

#59 Generator base cost 24.99 (a 63% increase)

Now if this is not hanky panky what is, I took the gallon of oil in place of a credit, was charged $11.99 than credited back $11.99 so in effect I am actually being charged since its included in the price anyway or it should just not show up on the invoice but anyway the only thing I was credited in March was $4.00. Somehow this is very fishy to me.

Up till now I trusted this orginization completely, but in comparing these invoices I do not feel that the business ethics are on the up and up. When a company has been charging X to a mass amount of consumers such as in our industry they should be honest and up front enough to advertise or inform us the consumers of there services that the increases are Y from X. This PM which included everything all air filters for both the ISC engine and the Pro-Heat, radiator BTA additive (which they could not put in cause they overfilled the radiator thus it was to full to add the fluid, took with me) and an Oil Analysis.

Amount $287.44 about $110.00 more than what my local mechanic would have charged for everything except the Anylsis.

I have lived, I have learned, and I will be saving in the future and waiting until I get home. The convience is just to costly for me not to have my bride follow me to the garage and drop the truck off and go pick it back up.

If you must use the services and want to save some $ change your own air filters in the future I should have done this it would have saved me in the difference over $35.00 so this one is a dumb %### on my part.

Just one more thing on this and then I'm done. I was not asking for sympathy since this is a business decision. My purpose was to simply warn my fellow Expeditors in D Trucks to be aware BEFORE they pull into the bay that they are going to pay more than they did the last time. Thanks, though, for your insight and wisdom. I appreciate your comments. india

India,

I'm confused on this one. Are you saying it should be less because it's a straight truck, or because of engine size? What kind of truck do you drive?

What I mean is, my FL70 Cummins was always less than what the Century guys with Detroit 60 Series paid.

Isn't it based on engine size, not truck size?

I was always charged at Speedco according to how many quarts my engine took.

$287.00??? Heck, I'll go to the MADCO truckstop and get an oil/filter change for $130 or so. I paid $159 at the International dealer in Denver this past summer. Speedco is supposed to work on volume. Guess biz isn't doing well for them. Or, it is and they're just being greedy.

Well I will offer a counter opinion. One important thing about SpeedCo is that you usually get in andout in 30 minutes therefore your productivity can be greater.

I had one bad experience from a fuel filter that was not tightend down and the following morning I neded road service to get started. I contacted SpeedCo's HQ in Indiana, explained the situation, they reimbursed me for the road service and sent along a coupon for a free service. No BS with them,it was handled promtly with sincere apologizes. Also I have noticed that they do not seem to have much employee turnover which is a good sign. Lets not forget oil is no longer $40 a barrel so they along with everyone else is in this world has higher costs.
