We haven't been to Ontario or Quebec since the law was enacted as we're not setting the limits on our truck...BUT...we've seen more than one Canadian truck driving in excess of 65mph here in the states and we're wondering what's up with that....anyone??

We have been up there several times and have not been checked. We drive so slow we are still being passed like we are sitting still.

Was that truck based in Quebec or Ontario ? They are the only provinces requiring the speed limiters . There is a service set up at Windsor that reportedly will reset your speed for only $10 . The speed setting does not have to be permanent . You are allowed to be capable of resetting it when returning to the U.S.

Yes and I should have included that in my response. We look at either plates or addresses of businesses. Maybe that service is the answer although I don't know why a Canadian driver would bother when entering the states.

I go to Ontario almost every week . I usually cross at Sarnia late afternoon and in 2 years have never had the Supercoops on the 402 open when I passed . I have crossed other scales when they were open . They usually have an officer standing next to the scale giving trucks a quick visual inspection as they cross . If your truck looks good odds are you won't get pulled around for inspection .
There was fairly heavy enforcement and inspection at the end of the grace period but then this bit of information came out . Truck News - Blog: Questions remain about speed limiter enforcement tactics . Since the testing device cannot check the parameters it is really ineffective in determining if the speed is in fact limited to 105 km/h . A driver will be charged with not having a speed limiter if he is clocked at a speed of 115 km/h or more .

The MTO did a series of test inspections back awhile ago and afterwards I haven't seen really anything hinting at a specific check process. I agree with if you're speeding over 110kph then you're likely to get a ticket for speeding and for not having the limiter set. I'll presume they are performing random checks of limiters but I haven't seen it at any of the scales I've passed from Windsor to Kingston in the last couple of months.

They may be afraid of legal costs if their current method is challenged in court and they lose . I regularly pick up Canadian trucking magazines in Ontario so I'll post if I learn anything new .

We have been up there several times since our truck was "castrated". We have NOT been checked. We HAVE, however, had our "doors blown off" as other trucks and 4 wheelers pass us like we are standing still!!! We were doing 62mph according to our gps and they often just fly by!! Kinda makes ya wonder, don't it?
