Spare keys

Do you carry spare keys? I do, probably to the extreme. My van came with three with the chip in them that will start the van and I got one cut on a steel blank that will unlock the doors. I have two with me that drive plus the unlock key and a full set at home for just in case.

We carry a full set of keys in the truck. I carry a door key in my wallet and we have a door key wired up in a safe place that cannot be seen just by looking at the truck.

Our Volvo is made such that you cannot lock yourself out of the truck. The door must be locked from the outside using a key. An open door cannot be locked and then closed.

Same with the Sprinter, an open door cannot be locked and then closed. Also, probably like the Volvo, a second remote will not lock the doors if there is a key in the ignition.

My sprinter is not idiot proof. The back door isn't tied into the fail safe system. I'm not going to say how I found out.

Yeah, the back door is the only one that you can open, lock, close the door, and it stays locked. That's one of the reasons why I carry a spare remote in my pocket. The other reason, mainly, is if I forget to unlock the doors at pickup or delivery, I can quickly unlock the rear door without having to walk back up to the driver's side door and reach in an hit the button. Mine's an 05 Sprinter.

I had a Chevy Express cargo van when I was working for FedEx Home Delivery
I was in the back getting a parcel with a load that was all the way to the ceiling. The wind closed the rear door and locked me in, because of the stupid child safety lock system. Needless to say I had to dig my way through parcels to the side door to get out. When got home I disabled those child safety locks, so they would accidently be turned on again
:eek::cool:

every single truck i used to own have a key hidden in it somewhere , i normally hide&forget ...
the Argosy was the best - no need to lock .
the Volvo thing was very annoying .
the keyless entrance is way down the wish list , but it is there ,B4 the memory foam mattress and after the remote start .

when i drove a company truck , back in the days , just for the heck of it , i had an unmatched key stuck on the passenger door ,just to see hoe will be fulling with it , and was a great ice breaker .

Don't really care to know where they might be and didn't ask that. Just threw the topic out to generate some discussion and thought on extra keys.

One in the ignition, one on a key ring with other keys in my pocket and one stashed. I also carry a hammer in my wallet, just in case.

Kenworth has the same feature, a very smart one at that.

One extra in that safe outside location, along with lock de-icer outside somewhere (what good does lock de-icer do in a glovebox?) and a spare set of keys inside, and a set at the house.
