For some reason I asked a very important question and it was ignored - has the op provided any content beyond the turtle stuff and some posts in the political arena?
Doesn't anyone get what I am asking?
Greg,
I get it - the issue you are raising is the question of the identity of the OP.
It's a valid issue to raise - as there have apparently been at least a couple of people who, over periods of time, have posted multiple screen names .... perhaps many more .... I don't really know because it's far above my pay grade .....
Personally, I'm alot less concerned about
WHO is saying something, than I am about
WHAT is actually being said.
The problem with raising the issue however, is that it invites all sorts of speculation - and even worse: accusations ..... as to who the actual identity is .....
The difficulty is that unless one is the owner or administrator of this website .... or maybe a hacker .... it's something that can't really be proven, one way or another.
So if the purpose of raising the issue is just to alert others that there may be what amounts to a troll amongst us, that's all fine and well.
However if the purpose is, to indirectly intimate, in some sort of a sly, covert manner, that: "the real identity of X is __________" ...... well then, ya better have some reasonable basis and evidence to back up your accusations.
Personally, my own take on the matter is that, acting in such a manner - using multiple identities and/as sockpuppets - does absolutely nothing to make this - or any other forum on the internet for that matter - a better place for the users or a more desirable place to visit. I view it as being
inherently dishonest and think it cheapens any possible discourse.
There's nothing wrong with using pseudonyms (screen names) - given the liabilities of too much public disclosure of private info (identity theft, crime, etc.) - however only
one pseudonym is required to guard against that.
As someone who has been accused (
falsely) - both publicly and
privately (yeah, word gets around) - of having multiple screen names, I can tell you there is no joy in being the target of a
whispering campaign - particularly when the accusations are false.
Whatever I, as an individual have to say, will be said using my my screen identity "rlent". Personally, when I've got something to say and decide to speak out, I actually
want people to
know that I have said it - that's the whole point of even bothering to communicate in the first place.
And contrary to the pseudo-macho speculation of some,
anything that I have said to
anyone on EO, I would be quite willing and happy to repeat - whilst looking directly into their beady whites.
And if you (meaning anyone) personally have some doubt about the above statement, drop me a PM and I'll give ya my cell number and we can meet.
It would not be all that difficult, if one has been at all paying attention to what various people say in the forums (and particularly the Soapbox) to recognize who the particular individuals are who are seemly fixated on
WHO the actual identities are of certain handles which appear to be possible "multiple screen names" ..... because they have speculated about it in public, repeatedly.
Speculating and offering up that "X" might be "Y" is not quite the same thing as just raising the issue of the possibility that some new screen name "X", who has been here a short time is padding their post count with inane stuff just to try and "blend in" so that they can push their particular agenda, whatever that might be .... I offer the differentiation above to make it clear that I am not referring to Greg when I talk about certain folks who are fixated on the matter of
"WHO is X ?"
Food for thought.
