My opinion (which I know Isn't worth much) The poster didn't really want advice. He wanted

1. his opinion confirmed.
2. an opportunity to cause trouble fer fun

which is it ????

I realize I'm relatively new here so you all can take my opinion for what it's worth.

For the last 10 years I have been a fleet manager, that is companies paid me to spec, buy, maintain, and sell their trucks. All of that at the lowest cost with the best performance. That translates into something called real cost of ownership. I am also a fully licensed truck mechanic (IP red seal as well) here in the great white north.

I don't think I've ever read a bigger bunch of crap than this post. A little bit of intelligence is a dangerous thing and this qualifies as a little bit. You can make research and numbers tell you anything you want if you have an agenda, believe me I've had to do it. In the end you have lied, in this case to yourself. In most cases I'd be considered an "expert" about buying trucks, I got that reputation by being smart and LISTENING!! I came to this site to listen to what the folks who are doing it are saying, whether I agree or not I listen, make notes and factor it in. I call it learning, maybe I'm wrong about something, dunno till I learn. I've bought dozens of trucks that with a bunk would likely expedite well, I'm still here to LEARN by LISTENING!

You bought your Hino, good for you I hope it works out for you. You think you made the right choice, if you want validation, the pat on the back go get it from the salesman who sold it to you. But to come in here with that attitude and accuse Leo ....Go turn on the CB and tell the world how smart you are, just unhook your antenna first.

I'm going to stay here and listen to the real experts.....
And buy a better truck than you.

Thanks Piper; you've said all that needs saying to Lugnut. He just refused to listen to some of our members who were honestly trying to render their truck specing/buying opinions as was requested. It seems he just wanted an audience for his low initial cost purchase. Caveat Emptor.

Lugnut wrote,
What am I pointing out above? Simply that the majority of truck components that make up a first rate expedite truck can be had on any expedite truck regardless of the “Brand Name†you choose.
So why does Leo believe the Hino truck chassis is mediocre and why, in his “expert opinionâ€, should we run from one brand or another simply based on his statement that it is so?

I don't speak for Leo, but I look for ROI.(return on investment).
Review the used prices of trucks, and then you will have your answer.
Somehow I think one might have been a little late in this endeavor.

RE: Someting New On

The truck I put up there was one I randomly selected from Truckpaper. Before I posted on here about I would have the oil tests done and I would have a mechanic that I know and trust check it out. If either one of those didn't check out good there would be no reason to post on here about it.

I don't remember who asked, but it doesn't have a shower. I always worked hard enough to burn 50 gallons of fuel in a day anyhow to get a shower. I mean in a Pete like that at the max you run 300 miles and you've burnt 50 gallons. Top off the tanks and get the shower credits. It sure beats having another headache in the form of cleaning a shower, loading fresh water, and unloading waste water. That's just me though. On the flip side of that coin if I was building some kind of Class 8 motor home on a pete or kw or freightshaker chasis then sure I'd put a toilet and shower in it. The difference is the difference between rv and cmv. Rv is recreaction (fun) vehicle. Commercial motor vehicle is for work purposes, and that is what it should be built for, work. Plus I'm sure walking a couple hundred yards at the most into the truck stop ins't going to hurt anyone. If it does you most likely don't need to be on the road to begin with.

Them long nose pete E units don't get the 8-10 or more mpg that a aerodynaic d unit does. People that buy those trucks usually buy them for the classic looks not fuel economy. My dad's got an old freightshaker that does good to get 4 mpg. Needless to say he doesn't run it much. It's in excellent condition, and sometimes we pull it out to go load a trailer if the new truck is in the shop or detail shop, but other than that it's at home.
