Very good Hawk, there is a saying that I believe kids use these days, "You need to walk the walk before you do the talk".

>For example, tomorrow morning we pick up a WG load in Texas
>to deliver to Washington DC.

Just an update regarding that load. We lost it. After picking up the courrier and making two stops to pick up the art work, a hydraulic hose on the lift gate burst, leaving the liftgate on the ground and the truck unable to move. FedEx sent in another White Glove truck to rescue the load. The courrier and freight made it to Washington DC safely and on time. We spent the day with a broke down truck in Dallas. A road service call got the liftgate fixed but we got no loads out of Dallas that night. We're dispatched now but for a pickup tomorrow. So, we lost a load and lost two days.

We're doing in 2006 as we did in 2005. Taking the bad with the good.

Photo attached showing the freight rescue in progress. For the customer, FedEx came through. The FedEx fleet size is large enough to switch one truck for another and get the job done. FedEx does not have the powerful brand name it does by accident. Rescues like this are part of the company's strength. It's nice to be part of a brand that is so highly esteemed by the public.

Whether it is intentional or not it has only been roughly a couple of months since your claims of making $3.00 per mile and then retracting it.
You content and delivery is usually what is questioned.
An example of this is;

The implication that your trucks are doing better than us is also without merit. The FACT is, DaveKC, that if our daily revenue average from Nov 1 to date holds through the end of the month, we'll have a month over $30,000 gross to the truck. And if our mile average holds, we'll have earned that having driven less than half of the miles your trucks drive.

That is one of many examples of what some think is alittle too fluffy. Especially when in my case, you don't know what rate I run at.
To your credit, you did retract the statements a week later after numerous members questioned this information.

Sorry about your loss.

But I have a really dumb question; I thought there were very few exceptions (training, licensing, emergencies) for more than two people in the cab underload by DOT regs. Maybe I heard wrong and for some reason it sticks in my mind as I thought I heard it.

I don't know, Greg. It's not a question I've ever thought to ask. Insurance arrangements are made or waivers are signed before courriers come on board. FedEx is a law-abiding company and courrier runs are not uncommon. I'm not aware of any rule that would prohibit the practice. It's been enough for us to simply go with what FedEx says, which is that it is OK to take a third person along on courrier loads.

It's no different from taking family members with you. The courier or family member must sign a release waiver form and then off you go.For family members additional insurance must be set up.

DaveKC,

This is the third time you have taken the $3.00 a mile quote out of context and misrepresented what I said. So, once again to correct the record, I'll say exactly what I said before:

"The link to the quote is http://www.expeditersonline.com/dcforum/DCForumID1/3349.html#40

It is response number 40 to the thread. The date is November 6. The month to date figures I referenced were for the first 5 days in November. Fair minded readers would note that and most expediters would confirm that a hot streaks of a few days are not unusual.

So, my words are 100% true when quoted in their full context, and I stand by them. They are also NOT misleading since (as fair-minded readers would note) as I was quick to point out (four times in the space of a few paragraphs) that it would be inaccurate to extrapolate from the numbers I stated."

I retract nothing from the original statement and ask only that if you talk about it, you do so fairly. We've already had this conversation about that quote. I trust it can end here.

Regarding fluff, what you call fluff, I call facts. The joy we find in our life as expediters and the numbers we produce are as real as anything can be. If it's a crime to tell others that they too can do what we've done, then I'm guilty. Diane and I have achieved nothing that other people of ordinary ability cannot also achieve, if they do the research we did, have a basic set of business skills, are willing to work as we have worked, and know how to be professional.

I think most already had a good laugh on it.
Your probably alittle late explaining this thread from Nov. since you still don't have all the information to draw your comparison.
I will admit, it was pretty funny.
At any given point or time period in the year that your truck makes the same income on half the miles is a pretty fluffy statement.
Then again, if my trucks are home and not moving during a holiday, it might be possible.

Wow BP this topic and thread must have set a record 49 replies within 2.5 days. But I think the time has come to lock it down, lots of views expressed, both positive and negative but as usual the urinating match starts. I will not identify the chief urinator but most of us have a pretty good idea. So BP good job and stay safe and active.
