So You Sit or Do You Move? Try This Decision Aid

It really has nothing to do with Phil but as Lugnut said that its a theorem and that's all.

Regardless what people want to think, knowing past performance of freight-lanes is no real guarantee of present freight revenue unless one wants to step out of the box and think beyond the "expedite" thing.

There is a governing factor involved with all of this, your carrier. If your carrier is not actively looking for freight to move trucks, but rather looking to capture top dollar revenue, then you will sit anywhere you land. AND with that, you as a contractor DO not have the right information to make this little spreadsheet useful, even at LS.

In theorum an elephant can hang off a 10 story building by his trunk....;)

Well I am thinking your not driving any more but sitting and running your pickle empire from your van in Taylor with the amount of activity you have had lately here.

You have an agreement with St Nick to use elves to stuff pickles in those little jars?

I only ask because the NP output for toys looks like it is really really down according to the North Pole Transportation Index for Raw Materials.

What?

Driving around the yard?

How many miles can you do chasing your tail?

Oh you went to the Tim Hortons and back for coffee runs for the office staff :p

Greg and OVM; now that's funny!:D

Thanx..:D Comic relief..just don't know who the straight man is...

Back to topic.....

I think a lot of us have developed our own little system...that works for that certain individual...and the more ideas put out here, the better.....take what is important to YOU and apply it the way YOU need it too....and leave the rest.

A fine example of an expediter having toooo much time on his hands.
I think this should get a stickie right next to "Whos $20 is that":D

I know I don't post a lot on here and I may be out of bounds here by saying this but..... Why all of the harshness against Phil? Is there some bad blood I am not aware of?

The way I see it, he posted his aid for someone that may find it helpful. Primarily newbies. I don't know anyone this board including Phil (other than reading his blog) and I may not be in the loop so maybe there is a history I am not privy to?

If a newbe read that chart, they may rethink getting into this type of work.

In my case, during my expedite days, there was no decission. When I accepted the load,I already new where I was going to layover, and only if the load paid enough money to deliver it and put me in that place did I accept the load.Doing this work doesnt take a mathematician,or brain surgeon.
Where I an now,I have a dispatcher that I call everyday, but in 7 months hasnt dispatched me on a load yet. When I get loaded,I call the dispatcher that runs the area I'm going to deliver in,and 99% of the time.I pre loaded from that area.
Its to bad the rates here are so low, although,my gross pay is great, the miles I run are to many for the pay.Truck is 7 months old,and has over 81000 miles now.

As Greg mentioned, I have seen these at a couple truck load sites. I think Phil put that out there just for a realization as to what it might cost in the decision making process.
Hard to see any other issues in it other than that considering all the variables.
We don't use charts but use a similar thought process when reviewing using a variety of tools. Most likely we wouldn't move, but use it as a determination as to whether we broker something.
