So Much for Legal Immigration

Here's an example of military budget cuts in real world terms: Thursday, my son and his Marine unit had an 18 hour layover at the Seattle airport enroute to Okinawa, Japan. They arrived in Seattle around 6pm local time and their next flight would depart 12pm local time next day. They were instructed to sleep on the airport's floor since no motel rooms would be provided. My son didn't mind these arrangements and took it all in stride. Civilian government employees would surely be provided motel accommodations. I do not agree with this policy. Military personnel should be treated as well as civilian government workers, in my opinion.
It's hard to imagine any employee of govt agency - no matter what his level is on the food chain -being forced to sleep on an airport floor during a business trip. Compare these meager cost savings with the money spent on recent "meetings" held by the DEA and IRS in 5-star resorts. Nonetheless, this is a prime example of how our military get treated by the Obama administration. I hope your Senators and Congressmen have been notified about this outrageous incident.

It would seem that you never worked for the DOD. Lots of low end treatment. Only the elite and the higher end union guys are treated like gods.

That is a problem alright. I'll be visiting my congressman's office this week to complain in person.

Be that as it may, I will still go take up some of their time and complain in person.

OH have at it! We should ALL become hemorrhoids where our elected criminals are involved. We have not held their feet to the fire for far too long and what we have now is a result of our lack of vigilance.

Actually, I was in the Army during the Viet Nam era and saw all kinds of waste, fraud and abuse. But today's all-volunteer military is supposed to be treated much better than the way it was 45 years ago. One would expect soldiers from Chad to be sleeping on airport floors, not the US Marines.

I too was in the army, '70 - '73. Sleep on a lot of floors and airport chairs. Same when stuck at airports when with NSA. It took 18 months for those who got out of Iran, who lost everything they owned except for one suitcase PER FAMILY, to be compensated for their lost. DOD civilians who do real jobs are not looked out for.

Waste, fraud and abuse? In DOD? Say it ain't so! There is SO much waste it is hard to even imagine. I believe it would be possible to cut, right now, 20% out of the DOD budget. Then, after an intense rebuild/refit period, another 20 - 30%. All while increasing readiness.

You mean cut out $483 toilet seats and $100 hammers and things like that? At least, if not more.
