Slushbusters? Where can I get them?

There is another system for removing snow and ice buildup from the wipers as well. It uses and electric motor controlled by a dash switch that simulates you manually flicking the wiper arms yourself.I saw them on you tube.I think they are made in Canada.

It's odd that both wiper arms and the linkage would all go bad at the same time. The linkage pivot points need to be lubricated once in a while, but a pivot can still fail. The wiper arms are made of sintered material (not a solid piece of forged or drawn metal), but not to the same exacting purity and quality standards you'd find in the cogs and gears of the engine, transmission, rear end, etc. The arm is coated with a resin to make it look shiny and metallic. So they can just crack and break apart at any imperfection in the sintered material. You can see a great illustration of that when your alternator's decoupler pulley fails and your belt tensioner snaps in two.

The wiper arms are a relatively common replacement part on the Sprinter. They sell a lot of them to people who have never heard of Slushbusters. They sold one to me for the driver's side, and that was before I installed the Slushbusters. Three years after installing Slushbuster they are both still working.

There is far more stress on the wiper arm and linkage while using the wipers at 65 MPH than there is from the Slushbusters, assuming the Slushbusters were correctly placed when installed.

Only one arm failed. I replaced the other one as well. The groove on the linkage stud was coned and would not hold the wiper tight.

In what wasy was stress put on the system? On our truck, the SlushBusters put no stress on the system. What little stress that is exerted when the wiper blade passes over the SlushBuster is absorbed by the give that happens in the rubber wiper blade when it passes over.

See the photo below. Look close and note how the rubber part gives at the point of contact while the rest of the wiper system is unaffected. Also note how tiny the point of contact is.

If the SlushBusters are installed incorrectly such that the entire length of the blade strikes the entire length of the SlushBuster at the same time, a slapping action will result and vibration may be transmitted through the wiper system, enough to produce accelerated wear, but even that would be unlikely, I would think.

SlushBusters need to be installed at a slight angle to the wiper blade so only a tiny part of the blade makes contact as it passes over the SlushBuster.

Yep, looks just like how I had mine installed. Not sure what you are looking for, but I've been told by two different techs, that the busters caused the wiper system to fail. That's all, nothing else I can say about it. Like I said, I had them on for a little over 3 years.

I'll just go back to the old way to keep the wipers free of ice. I'll just put them in de-ice mode....

I spent some time with an inventor at GATS a few years ago that had a small air piston attached to the wiper arm.
I liked air driven wipers. A few "bumps" in the park position would break free any snow or ice accumulation. The CL-9000s were especially nice because the wipers were always vertical throughout the entire travel cycle. Same goes for the W-900.

Diane and I put a set of SlushBusters on our truck for the first time a few weeks ago and put them to the test on Tuesday. They work!

SlushBusters keep snow and ice from building up on your windshield wipers. They are inexpensive, no-moving-parts, plastic strips that you afix to your windshield.

The test was two hours of driving through the ice storm that recently hit Dallas. The photo below shows the ice that built up on the wiper arms as we drove (as well as the rest of the truck, top, sides and bottom).

The SlushBusters kept the wiper blades clean. Visibility was good throughout the storm. No stops were needed to clean the wipers. Having had snow and ice build up on the wipers before, we believe it would have happened again in this storm, if not for SlushBusters.

A SlushBuster is shown in the photo. It is the plastic strip pasted (peel and stick) onto the windshield on the outside. The wiper was stopped at an angle to photograph the ice. When the wipers are parked, the SlushBusters sit just above the blades. They are installed not parallel to the blades but at a slight angle.

Most of us use the slush busters and have for many years and know how awesome they work. The question is where to purchase them?

I bought mine from the link posted earlier in this thread. My bank account shows the money was taken out of it, so lets hope they do show up. Phone calls and e-mails to this place go un-answered. I guess they don't want to be bothered...So I took the chance..I swear by them. They work for minimal cost. If they do show up, I will buy a couple more sets to put on my personal vehicles with spares as well.

We bought extras last year and I am wondering if we should buy a couple more sets this year. This truck is to tall for me to slap the wipers on the windshield AND when the weather is like that the last thing I want to do is pull of the interstate. They have worked great for us for MANY years!

My SlushBusters last twice as long.
maybe it's because i only used them on the driver side.
last year i really did not noticed any different between the 2 sides.
ofcurse, last year was not much of a winter either.

Eddie, when you say they were on for a little over 3 years, do you mean continuously? And if so, would that make a difference, leaving them on over the rest of the year?
I've used them for years too, but always take them off in the spring.

Guido,

Was your order filled? My telephone and email inquiries have gone unanswered. Before placing an order on their web site, it would be nice to know if other people's orders have been filled.

I'm gonna give it a few more days then claim it with my credit card as a fraud business. They are pretty good about getting my money back from places like this.
