Slow Business?

Is this a particularly slow time of year? Are the auto plants switching over for the new model year?

Seems incredibly slow out there right now.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Any comments appreciated.

Depending upon the part of the country you are operating in - maybe it's just time to move. East Coast very busy and, of course, Chicago. If these aren't the areas you want to run, you'll have to go with the hand you're dealt. Best of luck and if you find a good niche to run in, let us know. Keep it positive - I've been doing that a lot lately.

Thanks for the reply.

10.4 on staying positive.

I'm based out of Detroit, and that's why I was wondering about the auto plants. Like to stay in the Great Lakes area when possible. Go to other locations as needed.

Hey Sarkus, whats the chance you and I work for the same company out of Detroit. Does something Hills mean anything to you? Anyways, I maxed out my last credit card through the change over a short time ago, and am looking at other ways to help myself. I am following that Bible scripture that goes something like God helps those who helps themselves...I have been networking like hell, and I think that is going to be my key to success. I am always talking to other drivers, seeing who is in the area, getting opinions on this person or that person, etc. What I have done, is talked to a couple small companies, and faxed them copies of my insurance and dot stuff for them to file, and let them know, if there is something they need, give me a call, and if I dont have committments, I will do run some freight for them. Of course the company I work for lives by the rule that if you work for them, YOU WORK FOR THEM, and nobody else. Unfortunately, I have spent countless hours sitting in parking lots scratching my head trying to figure out how I can use that motto to increase my paycheck, when I know I currently have made 700.00 for this pay period, with one more day left in said period, and 1200.00 worth of truck and insurance expenses due that week. For instance, the owner of this small company I have talked with, calls me last weekend, leaves a voicemail on my phone asking if I would be interested in taking some freight from Detroit to Chicago O'Hare? I call him back, and tell him sure, as I was not preplanned on anything for the following day. I call the company I run for "full time" and tell them I have a committment for the next day, and will call when I am back, and that is that! My goal is to find a small company, with a highly motivated owner, who wants to make lots of money, because if he wants to make money, then that means I am going to make lots of money, because 30 or 40 percent of zero, is zero! Keep your eyes and ears open my friend, and get your name out there. There are lots of companies in the Detroit area.
