Sleeping cool in the heat

Neccessity is the mother of invention. I have had AC problems and I hate to pay for idle air and I hate to idle. I have come up with an idea that works quite well when sleeping. If someone reading this patents this and makes a bunch of money, PLEASE CUT ME IN!

I use a dc fan and an oversized cover sheet, I tuck the sheet around my mattress, clip the fan above my window with the sheet through the clip. I form the sheet around the fan in a circle then it poofs out I have a semi cool igloo bed. If you have a breeze it helps alot! Try this on semi muggy nights people you will be amazed, and it saves alot of money.

My wife said it was 104 in Laredo yesterday afternoon, I slept the day away without breaking a sweat. To make it sellable I was thinking of 2 cover sheets made like a sleeping bag with the fan in a tube like a dryer vent or pvc sewn into the sheet.

Sounds like it would work well till the humidity get's up into the 90's LOL
Down in Texas that isn't a problem

Doug I had to laugh when I read your post. I have a fan on the floor that I turn up so that the air blows between the sheets. Those "hot flashes" are killer, and as you said, necessity is the mother of invention. :D

It is amazing how much a fan can help stir the breeze and keep you cool. A fan is really a great inexpensive investment in personal comfort.

We were in Laredo last week,it was 105 but the humidity was only 29%. It was still miserably uncomfortable tho'.

Walmart sells a little stainless steel 12" fan for around $15.00, and it works great! A small fan does save alot of money, and makes those nights of uncontrollable farting alot more durable.

isopropal alchohal will cool the skin nicely AND it will also clean the skin allowing for extra time betwixt and between applications of hot water and soap.

yeah there was a reason you didn't spend time in the blacksburg j.

Alcohol will also dry out the skin and do serious damage to it that is irreversible. just an FYI for those foolish people who will bath in it thinking it is like a milk treatment.

Well now, I have one of those little fans that I sit on the counter next to the bed. Works real well for keeping things cooled down. Even though I don't own the truck and I don't pay for fuel I try very hard not to idle the truck unless it is just un-bearable. NOT that the truck owner minds us idling, we were actually told to go ahead an idle but I try not to cost him money if at all possible after-all he's trying to make a living too. As for the farting, the fan don't work for that. My hubby is the farter of all farts and thats a fact and all the fan is gonna do is stir it around. Nope, finally figured out that threatening to throw him out of the truck didn't work either, so now I threaten to throw myself out of the truck if he don't stop, works like a charm. He don't mind getting out but he don't want me to get out cause "someone might try to hurt me" so I use it against him and it works better then any fan. heeheehee :D

Ok heres something funny, I posted this thread Thursday night and totally jinxed myself, then went to bed in Laredo. I got my bed all set it poofed out and I could not cool off. After 2 hours of roasting, I broke down and got idle air.

I did get my AC fixed before leaving Laredo, YEA!

I had to Deadhead to Del Rio for my load to Tulsa, I stopped before Eagle Pass to mail a letter, I got out and thought OMG this is like an oven, I called my wife she said the currrent temp was 103, then I got to Del Rio and it felt even hotter. I called her again, she looked it up and said it was 110 there.

If the Cap & Trade become law , farting might become somewhat Expensive.

On the way here (El Paso) yesterday, and today while out driving around, the van showed the ambient air temp as 100, 101, 102 (while rolling) ..... although the Weather Channel claimed it was only 96 awhile ago ....

I slept from 00:30 to 15:00 (eastern) ... which is only 13:00 local, so it was getting hot outside when I got up ..... I ran the battery-powered AC and it kept me comfortable while I was sleeping. Wish I had a couple of solar panels though ..... would get more run-time out of it.

It's pretty cloudy now, with rain showers sprouting up all around (but not right here of course) .... and still pretty hot (Weather.com says 98 now ....)

I'm gonna grab a shower, hit Taco Cabana for some enchiladas, and then start rolling for Carlsbad, NM ..... I figured being 4th or 5th in line I probably ain't gonna get out tomorrow ...... so I'll do a little caving.

I understand the temp in the cavern is about 56°F year round .... seems like as good a place as any to spend what would otherwise be a very hot Sunday in the van ..... :D
