Me again!
Just to fill u in...i am about to adventure into o/o of a cargo van. i don't have one as yet but am in the process of securing with help from wifes dad. when i told him of the per mile pay i was offered by 1 company, he said, "thats to good to be true." He says he talked to truckers last night and said that its unheard of...but I told him if he asked a company drivers what they made per mile it is not going to compare to an O/O in the expedite niche. He doesnt believe any company will pay that per mile no matter what the niche is!
I need everyones assistance to prove to him otherwise.

just look at it this way, if you can help, you'll be helping to put a man's dreams on the road.
thanks,
buz

That per mile rate for a cargo van actually sounds a little on the low side.Perhaps your Father in law is thinking in the mode of a company driver. When you explain to him all that will come out of that .77 he may understand better.

I agree with RichM's comments. You would be best served by talking to more than that one company; shop around the various carriers who advertise here and find you may get a better deal. Better yet Get to the Expedite Expo in Detroit in august and talk to drivers and recruiters. Bring you Dad-in-Law he might be more comfortable helping you when he can see the biz first-hand.

Good luck making the right choice for you, Terry

Mike.. I know your in the courier division down there and I was just in our's up here..what a rat race there! everyones gripping! cept the immigrants!
The expedite division out of Cambridge ain't so bad still the same crappy management system all that aside, I am making good money AND they are the only game in town! They have the customer base to get through the slow times and when it's busy it's off the wall..backhaul rates for vans are up to about 75% to get us home AND they are working at increasing this...they've increased some freight rates and we just got a raise on the fuel surcharge averaging about 4.4% now its up to 8.6% on average. And also we now have safety awards(cash) and stuff like that. They finally found an insurance company that would take us on unit record rather then fleet performance I won't be paying for that guy who zooms 90 mph in winter and people ditching it cuz they can't drive!

Buz,

Have your skpetic father-in-law visit this site so he can see expediters himself. Also contact FedEx Custom Critical recruiting department and ask them to mail you the flyer that states the average earnings for their various size units. Show that to him.

Hehe, everyone but the immigrants huh? Hmmm...

To be honest I haven't worked the 'on demand' group in a long time. I am part of the routed mob these days. I got away from our expedite work due to the poor pay. I'll agree though. It is a huge rat race here too.

The insurance offered to us is via AIG. It is *very* expensive as in $80 a week expensive. They never *once* hooked me up with a backhaul on any expedited work. Part of why I am not participating in that fun any longer. Now I just need to start getting them to pay me 50%... }>

It sounds like a completely different way of operating up there.

Be safe man! (and Woman (JuJu))
