i work for two carriers.. one has customers, the other is pretty much just off the bid board... my first year three years ago was really good.. two years ago ( i know and eternity ) everything was fine... last year kinda sucked, and now its just not doable with the rates they are saying they need to bid to get anything... if its industry wide, ill try to stick it out for a bit and hope things turn in march... i havent been doing this long enough to understand the ups and downs of the industry, but since i started its been only down...

As far as vans go, across the board it's not like it was 9-10 years ago when I started. It's definitely harder to make money then it was then. You have to pay much more attention as to when and where you sit. Phili is definitely a hit or miss area now a days. I'll generally give it 24 hours or so, if nothing happens or I'm not getting offers then I'm out. Many areas for what ever reason aren't as productive as they once were. Western Pennsylvania/southern NJ is definitely one of those areas. Harrisburg for example used to be a great area for me and now not so good. You have to relocate much more often to make money, unfortunately. There's way to many vans out here now. I bet there's at least three times as many out here as there was when I started. I've definitely had to change some of my expiditing habits in order to make money. There's a lot of :censoredsign:ers out here that will tell you they know what there doing and act like they know something you don't. Reality is that all of us are constantly trying to figure this industry out, just some of us have gotten a little better at guessing. No one likes to drive around with an empty truck but you have to now a days.

so true , so true...old days you could pretty much drop and stop....now its like turn and burn and that gets costly....but to sit in an unproductive area and " Hope" for that 1 load to come out and then ya gotta win the bid...good luck with that....should I stay or should I go? is really the tune today...
