hi, my husband and i are newbies, actually we go to orientation next week. we bought a box truck with a 96" sleeper and would like to put in a sink, is it very hard to do? we had a hard time even knowing where to look for one until someone said to go to an rv dealer. we talked to several and they said insted of a "gray water" tank most truckers let the gray water just run out onto the ground, is this true? thanks a lot!!

DEFINATELY NOT!!!!

Not only is that nasty, it's illegal, and it totally blows my mind that you would have several RV dealers so anti-trucker as to tell you that.

As far as sleeper companies, I believe every one of them drains the sink water to the outside.

Toilets have a grey water tank (must be dumped at RV facility like flying J) as well as showers.
On the showers, you can grey tank the water, or open drain so it runs out on the ground.

Thanks for clearing that up Dave! I thought they all dumped into the SAME tank, I didn't realize you could have a separate tank for toilet and shower/sink! I was thinkin, like there's not ENOUGH #$*% to walk thru in the parking lot..LOL...

There are gray water tanks and black water tanks. The gray water is from the sink and the black water is from a toilet. My Bentz sleeper has a gray water tank with a valve on it. When opened it drains out under the middle of the sleeper. I don't think a straight drain is a good idea because you wouldn't want it draining out on a customer's dock and you might want to use the sink while waiting at a dock somewhere. I'd contact the sleeper manufacturer and discuss it with them as well as camper shops.

On our ICT it just runs out on the ground (sink)
You could plumb it into the shower holding tank which would be ideal if at a truck show inside or something.

As far as the shower, we usually would leave it open, especially in the summer. Shower water with soap and shampoo running out of the bottom of the sleeper is likely the best cleaning some of those TS lots get. At least it smells better.

It is safe to say that Grey Water is not contianing any Body Fluids could be dumped onto the ground. I prefere not to do this in a truck stop though.

Also watch in the winter time that if you hold any water get it emptied asap as it will freeze and crack your holding tank. Same goes for fresh water tank. Do not let that water freeze, I kept a close eye on the truck one night went over to to it when the low fell in the signle digits, truck temp dropped to 23 inside and than the sun came up 2 hours later and it did not freeze. If the inside temp would have stayed there for a few more hours it was gona freeze. As for the spicket you must shut off the pump and keep the faucet open or it will crack your spicket.

If your gona be away for more than a day and the temp is gona get low protect yourself and empty all Liquids for Preventive Maint.

I love my water source, brushing my teeth, washing my face, body parts, I do not understand how someone could live without it out at least not a sink. Mine did go down and it was a pain to buy one gallon jugs but at least I had a sink.

I did not realize at the time I had the Shore Power on my sleeper but in the future I can put a space heater in the truck and have it come on once an hour for five minutes and this will solve that problem just a suggestion.
