Yes, we always leave $1 each in the showers. It has to be one of the worst jobs in the world. We have had a number of the employees actually come out and thank us for the tip.

Well since there are 2 of us that shower together we need more than the one towel provided...especially when Tinas hair was 1 foot longer, she would need 2 towels. if they pay enough attention to the customers as to bring that extra towel (or 2) i'll leave a buck or 2.
other than that...they get payed a full wage unlike waitstaff, so i don't feel guilty if i don't tip
Ps: i'm so glad she cut her hair...I dont know who shed worse...her or the dog. she also donated it to Locks of Love.

I worked as a short order cook for a spell, a job that doesn't even pay the bills much less leave extra in your pocket, the times when folks stopped and brought me a tip for a good meal. ##### that made my week, not just my day.
I figure even if the shower is not perfect, as long as they didn't forget to flush or dry the floor I leave a dollar. April leaves a dollar if she didn't have to wait more than ten minutes. Set your standard if the cleaner lived up to it tip! I have left as much as five, when for no reason the cleaner gave us two extra towels each and asked if we needed anything else. I don't tip if I have to wait forty minutes because the cleaner just won't work. You can tell just walk back there and see how many doors say vacant. We were at a TA in CA once there was a water pressure problem, we counted ten signs saying "We have a water pressure problem, Sorry for the inconvenience." It was halfway between LA and Phoenix you know the place 'middle of nowhere', anyway there must have been ten drivers stop and yell at the cleaner; because of the bad water pressure. Like they didn't know, and had to wait nearly an hour for their turn. We both tipped that night. Its a thankless job, would any of us be willing to do it for that pay? Besides if you keep track of the amount all tips are deductible. It's a win win.

I asked this same question 6 mos ago and the answer from us is yes.
If there are no pubes in the shower or floor and the sink is clean we leave as a team $5....
Got my azz handed to me from that post but I still maintain that Mike Rowe from dirty jobs should clean trucker showers for a day and report.
One of the worst jobs out there and if someone makes the effort they deserve a good tip..
Besides what is a 5 spot anyway???

Dirty Jobs should go to a nursing home if they want to see a dirty, thankless job. I worked it for 10 yrs at the same place and I could tell you all stories of things I dealt with that could make a most iron stomachs spew! Cleaning the showers were a relaxing part of the daily routine...of course we had to wash the people first. hmm that would be one heck of a service to offer us truckers...blonde Swedish girls for us guys...and buff Italian studs for the lady drivers.
I agree though... truck stop shower attendants don't have the most glamorous job and should get something for exemplary service.
