Terry,
I absolutely do - now that I have found the actual law that requires it. I don't have any problem complying - if I know what the law actually says/requires.
While I respect the opinions offered here by many, I really prefer to read the actual requirements of the law so that I personally
KNOW what it is. That way I'll never be in the position of having to tell some LEO "Well, you know, Joe up on Expediters Online told me that it was this way or that."
I spent probably over 4 hours last night online researching the scaling requirements for MI, VA, and AL.
I did find out that in VA if your GVWR is greater than 7500 lbs you are required to scale .... I even called a VA scale house and talked to the officer there just to verify it - because the wording in the PDF I downloaded from VDOT was not totally clear. (I have always scaled in VA on the half dozen or so times I have been thru there - just based on what I had read on here - and the exact wording on the signs on approach to the scales)
I didn't have any luck with digging up the regs for AL online though. And I still want to research IA since I've read from some on here that vans are required to scale there.
Greg,
I hear ya man. I think it's a problem in more than just MI.
Shawn,
Dunno when you were last up in the Motor City but they have finally done a little something on some of the worst potholes on I-75 and I-94 .... not that it's perfect by any means .... but at least I don't feel like I'm taking an unplanned detour to China.
