Should I get into expedited trucking?

My guy is very passionate about getting into expedited trucking with me. I know that my calling in life is helping others. I don't know how I could fulfill my need by being on the road. He really wants to do this but could never go back into trucking again without me. Any suggestions?

What do you do now? What would you be leaving behind? Expediting is a lifestyle not just a job.

I agree with Pelicn this is a life style and is very stressful if your whole heart is not in it!

How passionate are you about what you are currently doing?

The best advise I can offer is "Do exactly whatever it is that your heart tells you to do".

Right now I work in a group home for mentally challenged. I like it, but I know I could do so much more with myself. I don't know if there is a way within the trucking communtity that I can give support to others somehow.

You can always be there for other drivers by being an encouragement. Not that they will always appreciate it. You can help others in whatever you do, but if you whole heart isn't in expediting chances are you will grow to hate it. I would defianantly think about driving for a fleet owner before making a large investment in a truck if I were you guys. Just my 2 cents.

You could frequently consider that you are another part of a huge system that is helping people. When I deliver hospital beds I know that someone in need will have the bed they require to get better. When I deliver a widget that repairs the franistan so the thingamabob can continue operating I know I helped a whole lot of people keep their jobs going to feed their families and produce the whatevers that in turn do the same for others. It isn't the same thing of course, but it is another important factor in life that what we bring gets there safely and on time. Depending on what company you are with you may also be called into service for FEMA or elsewhere to help victims of disasters. It isn't just holding the wheel from point A to point B. As others have said, it's also a lifestyle and you have to be certain before adopting it, but there are also helpful aspects to it.

I probably shouldn't post a comment here, because I know less about Women and life issues than anyone alive.

I have spent 13 years OTR Expediting with my lady. Therefor perhaps I should throw in my two cents worth.

Carol has been home for the last 15 months taking care or her mother. She, like you enjoys helping people. As long as she feels her calling is in this direction I would be the last to encourage her to go back on the road. I know if your heart is not in it,friction rears its ugly head. It is hard enough dealing with life on a day to day basis when you are "joined at the hip".

I am not sure from your post if you have teamed in the past. If not I would make it clear that you may have to bail out.

Many other issues have to be addressed of course. If you are purchasing a truck it will be more difficult if he returns to a single driver. Hours of service make it difficult for a solo in expediting.

Good Luck and study the archives here.

Think long and hard about this. If your heart is not in it, please don't go. It is not all fun and games out here. There are times when
all u do is drive or sleep. Some days you do get a break and you
wonder what u are doing out here.

I am adjusting but there are days I wonder what I was thinking.
I drive team with my husband and he says he can't do this without me.
I know I wouldn't do it without him. So we are pretty much stuck
with each other. We have been married for 34 yrs so that helps.

There are good times also. You see a lot of things and go lots of
places. A van would be convenient but I don't know about them.
We have a C unit and it works for us. We can go to shopping centers
when not on a load and eat most anywhere.. not just truck stops.
We have seen some beautiful country and had interesting loads..
But there are still times I miss home, my house, my kids, and would
do anything to get back there.. other times like today, I was
at total peace driving down the road..
Life was good,, had a great load, all my kids ok, no problems at
home.

You may really enjoy it..you never know until u try

That's my 2 cents worth.
