Should a doc ask your child about your guns?

Yep, it's happening folks! I was lead to this Foxnews article by a post on another forum. Unbelievable.

Apparently, in Massachusetts, a pediatrician asked a little girl about her parents gun habits, then reported it to the police.

This was in response to guidelines issued by the American Association of Pediatrics.

"Debbie is a mom from Uxbridge who was in the examination room when the pediatrician asked her 5-year-old, 'Does Daddy own a gun?'

"When the little girl said yes, the doctor began grilling her and her mom about the number and type of guns, how they are stored, etc.

"If the incident had ended there, it would have merely been annoying.

"But when a friend in law enforcement let Debbie know that her doctor had filed a report with the police about her family’s (entirely legal) gun ownership, she got mad."

So, now they're trying to get your kids to 'snitch' on ya.. how sad is this...

Massachusetts????? Hard to believe! A better question may be, does Daddy drink and drive with women other than Mommy?

Dreamer,
This is not new.

Reminds me of NAZI Germany or the living in the Soviet Union during the 30's - using children for a political reason.

The girl's mother is to blame for getting her family into this mess. She was present when this doctor started his improper line of questioning, and should have immediately told him that their firearms status was none of his business. The fact that she went along with this interference shows that she must be very naive, or just plain stupid. At any rate, this episode illustrates yet another reason for a parent to be present at all times when their small children are being examined at the doctor's office.

This could lead to charges of pedophilia.

What guns a person own are their business and no one else's. If want to have 1,000 guns it's for me to know and no one else.

Absolutely not! If it were up to me any doctor doing so would lose their license to practice. The mother is an IDIOT for not immediately telling the child not to answer and taking her to a different pediatrician.

I also believe that the legal guns you have are your own business and not the business of the doctor. However, what did the news report say about what was the doctor examining the kid for. Maybe it was a gunshot wound in the kid's foot.

These loons want us all to unarmed and defensless. One of the main reasons the Japenese really didn't think about invading the American mainland in WW2 was because the amount of armed citizens we have here. They would've been ripped to shreads.

It is just our people in Washington taking care of us. After all, the neocons have been telling us that the government is just looking for the bad guys!

Lighten up. The Constitution wouldn't allow the government to spy of you and me. Would it?

Doctors have been questioning children in order to report their parents to the authorities for a long time, in cases of suspected abuse. This is a legitimate method to uncover abuse, but absolutely wrong for the purpose of reporting on gun ownership, (unless the child was shot.)
Hooligan, the Constitution would not allow the government to spy on us - but the current administration doesn't give a rat's behind for anything, including the Constitution, that might obstruct their desires. It's what we DON'T know that's hurting us, and I sure don't expect the corporate press to point it out, either. We get hints, here & there, but they're buried in the barrage of celebrity & sports "news". And so it goes.

Cheri,
Every administration has done this in some form or another, there was a lot worst going on just now we have a press that actually hates the guy.

How come the Bush apologists always respond by pointing out what other preidents or the Dems have done?
And how can anyone consider 'the media' to be anything other than another corporate tool? They've gone the WalMart route, ie: profit is the only point. Upsetting the source of the profit (advertisers) is bad for business, you know?
WalMart has almost succeeded in driving all the smaller businesses, including independent newspapers, out of business, so who's left?

Well I am offended, it is not I am apologizing or justifying his actions, it is I am pointing out facts.

From Wilson on, all Presidents have done something to spy on the people with the worst coming from Democratic administrations. Wilson, FDR, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson all did to spy on their enemies, organized crime leaders, civil rights leaders and communist and the press never looked into it. Nixon got caught, Carter was too dumb but since we have had our rights eroded. The one president that used unethical means in his administration was Clinton from FBI files floating around the white house and go missing to allowing people who have no clearance access to sensitive material. Now this does not include what was done without our knowledge in the last 25 years through the FISA court which is secret and setup by Carter. Oh and let's not forget that now we have a media that published our secrets to hurt the present sitting president and this is the same media that didn't say a word about the use of the ECHELON program to do industrial spying for American companies during the Clinton administration.

I would say this the present president does not care about the sovereignty or the citizens of the country by his position with the present invasion and from some of his actions, he should be impeached.

Sorry if I offended you, Greg, but when someone criticizes a specific person, such as President Bush, what previous persons have done isn't relevant, IMO. That's history, we can't change it, and it does nothing to justify the current practices.
Impeaching Bush would be a good start to getting America back on track, but who would take his place?

Cheri,

Don't worry about it. I was offended at everything this morning and still offended over my lunch.

Chaney of course. x( actually it is a good idea because it would take a while to impeach Bush and then it would leave Chaney 6 months fighting congress over a lot of different things, leaving him a really lame duck.

I think I am rather angry with the supreme court thing and can't understand why no one else cares - complacency maybe?

Well another thing is we have lost our right to own property with a liberal court, so I would expect that even with a conservative leaning court, they will side with the president.

I heard this same story a few years ago when conceal carry was being heavily discussed in Ohio. That time it was some kid in Cincinnati.
It cracks me up how so many rediculous stories just get recycled and recycled....I think that doctor was the same guy who diagnosed Bob Seger with throat cancer way back in the 70's...:)
