Shotgun in sleeper

First, to the driver who said it would be OK, because your sleeper is your home and you live in it - THAT IS WRONG!
By federal handgun law a residence is described as a permanent and or fixed address. (so go figure - does your truck stay in one spot!)Which then makes it vital for you to have a license to carry 'outside of your home'.
Which then brings us to point number two.
Handgun laws vary from state to state, and while many do honor other states handgun permits, many others do not.
Some states while they allow you to carry a gun - do not allow the gun to be loaded when you are in a vehicle.
Others allow you to HAVE a gun while in a vehicle but the gun can not be within the reach of anyone in the vehicle - basically saying "Keep it in the trunk."
The bottom line is - check with every state you plan on driving in, check with the DOT to learn their rules and regs, and if you plan to go to Canada and Mexico check with them as well.
REMEMBER A HANDGUN IS YOUR LAST LINE OF DEFENSE - NOT - YOUR FIRST LINE OF OFFENSE!
From a handgun owner and license to carry voter!
GOD BLESSES AMERICA WHILE GUNS PROTECT AMERICANS!

It is sad to see how eager you all are to have your constitutional rights crapped on. What is more fundametal to the USA's founding than the right to defend your self?

This countries going down the toilet - from illegal immigration, to perverts in our classroms, and our god given rights being smashed with a wrecking ball.

At least the Brady Bill expired.

I've said it before, & I'll say it again: I am 100% in favor of carrying concealed weapons, hopefully by those trained to use them safely, as I was. And I can understand a LEO's feeling incomplete without a weapon, feeling incomplete myself without a ring on my left hand, BUT: the risks are too great, and the alternatives readily available. Once again, what is lawful in another context, becomes illegal when driving a CMV. I would never risk my livelihood by carrying a weapon, but I am not without the means to defend myself - as the driver who awakened me the other night, pounding on my door at 0430, would have learned, had he not gone away when I didn't answer....x(

What? Cheri you must have been sitting in the same lot as I was - "hey Jean, wake up I locked myself out of the van again" pound pound pound.

"Come on Jean, its cold out here... open the door"

The only problem is that Jean was not IN MY VAN, she was in the van across the parking lot.

At some pointyou got to look at things for what they are,and not through "how you feel" take care of yourself, most importantly your family, its important Besides you opened it up too a little ribbing with your gun=stars&bars=redneck. A little silly.. and about the Tango.. well... too left feet and one of them ends up in my mouth from time to time.

JoeBob, having never actually met you, I had no idea that was you - why didn't you say so? I'd have come out with a big smile, darlin, and then I'd have told you how wrong you were - again.

If there was a way to have a shotgun on the truck Bob and I would be have two in a heartbeat! We both love to trap shoot and every time we drive by a range we wish there was a way to be able to have one of our old past times back.

Got my second DOT in a week here in N.C. DO NOT BRING IT INTO N.C. it will get you put in jail. They wanted to know ALCHOL, DRUGS, or GUN... I will presume all three are Illegal inside of the truck while in service or moving.... They ASKED TWICE.

They searched the Cargo but not the sleeper, I gave them permission also when they asked.

I feel this can only get you in big trouble out on the road. We get blamed for everything and if you were to injur someone even protecting yourself you would expose yourself to every Lawyer in that State. I would love to be able to protect myself but a truck driver is to dumb according to the general population or any Jury to defend himself, just the way the laws work. I hate to admit it but we are not looked upon by the general public as compident to do anything including our profession even when we are professionals, and much more professional than the general population is at what they do.

I have a solution for you that is very lethel.

I'll send over to you a pair of my son's dirty socks "His feet are legandary". (Wow) keep them in a zip lock bag for your protection and pull them out in an emergency. I'll guarantee you the thug will go away screaming! On the flipside you will have to rip out the interior out your truck to get rid of the smell.

Lots to consider when carrying a weapon with you, but one to consider is, will your carrier dismiss you. (I dont worry to much about my present carrier but i feel that with it on my record, I may have a hard time driving again) when they see a report that you had a firearm in your truck at time of traffic stop, or someplace where they do an extensive search of property, such as a military base. Ever been appoached at the gate with a shotgun trained on you? I have. Point is some shippers take what you have in your truck very seriously. I prefer too carry, but dont. Just a note, hollow points are illegal in NJ, they would rather a FMJ penetrate and leave an assailant and strike an innocent bystander, so that less harm comes to the person attacking you. Great law, one that proves that the more you try and control guns the less safer it gets. Is this not true with everthing even DOT regs.

not 100% but believe the law is no fire arms in comerical vehicles and that would include shotguns! besides what about amo? cant even legaly carry a pack of firecrackers! just some thing to think about.

I think we should all be proud that law enforcment, although unable to find Osama, was finally able to bring Willie Nelson down.I know I sleep better at night.Keep those pot smoking 73 year old musicians out of my state, please!
In the current atmosphere,I would strongly advice keeping shotguns, water guns, spear guns, butter knives and rice cookers at home.
If it smells like green tea, prior to getting a forced DOT,better chuck that as well.
I need to get off the Soap Box and see what else is going on with this site.
I have adviced all my teams that, according to reliable sources on EO,leave the shot guns at home.
I guess I did'nt know I might have a problem,as I never thought there was a real chance my drivers might consider having a shot gun in the sleeper. But,alas,I was mistaken. Not the first time.
I guess I should also let my Van Line drivers know as well.
Thanks guys and gals, just trying to keep it light, tight and bright.
