My Honda 2000i uses approximately 1/10 per gallon per hour....so that's .30-.40 per hour.....

That's just fuel, right?

When you add maintaince into the mix, then you may see anywhere from 10 to 25 cents an hour depending on the generator. Mine is somewhat older one, so it runs about 6 to 8 hours on a gallon of gas, the newer one runs like yours, 1/10 an hour but it is not going on the truck for a while.

I vote on everything he says....times 10!

I would like to see a full range of tv and movies available, but it has to be an option. If I only need power today, I dont want to be forced into buying power+tv+etc, etc. Sell me the basic need, then allow me to customize my own upgrades.

Thank you all for the feedback. I appreciate it. You'll be happy to know that the $1 p/h includes cable TV. A few of our sites just don't have the infrastructure to support cable at this time, but they are in the minority.

Two additional questions if you don't mind.

I hear you loud and clear that you are not going to drive an hour out of your way to plug in, but what if there are two truck stops 15 to 30 mins from each other. Would you be willing to go to the site where you can plug in v. the closer one?

If yes, does your answer change if you have always gone to the closer one (maybe because you get a discount on fuel at the first place, or you just like it better)?

Thanks again for all your help and feedback.

No...we are NOT happy to hear that there is an extra cost associated with the price. Again...what we want is the basic service. ELECTRICITY. I would love to see OPTIONAL services, but I don't want them to be included in the basic price. I want the basic service as cheap as you can get it to me.

Whatever it is costing you to have cable TV added to the package, take that cost off the $1/hr. THAT is what we will be happy to know.

Please understand, I would love to see your product in every truckstop in the nation. It is my opinion that if you will concentrate on keeping the price of THE basic service as low as possible, you will have a HUGE market.

It depends on how long I'll be there. If I'm just stopping for a few hours, I might drive 15 mins, but not 30. If it looks like I may be there for a weekend, I would drive farther.

Yes, it changes. But if your location is decently clean and SAFE, the power source would influence the decision. For me personally...if your location is clean and safe, food and facilities within walking distance, I'll move to the power source. Again, it depends on the length of stay.

ShorePower, thanks for asking.
like many out there, my rig is equipped with a stand alone sleeper, and a power source generator.
all I will ever ask for is electricity at a one $ an Hour and you got my business forever.

i will also need a same charge for 2 plug ins or dabble the power source, so the engine block heater can be plug in as well, in cold weather , am from Minnesota, so already tried the splitter thing, well it'll jump the circuit breaker ...
a large sleeper needs at least 75 AMP's.

as for payment option, Credit Cards only.
if you provide a prepay card it MUST include a 'privacy policy' waver.
as professional truckers we needs that info to be protected from LEO's and blood sucking layers .

Do you guys ever consider Camper parks, R/V parks, Like Good Sam etc, they have showers, usually a store and some times Grills etc, Ive done that several times in Fl and AZ...

Agreed, the lowest price possible for just electricity with anything else paid as an extra cost option if desired.

I guess I was a little harsh. I thought that I had stated it clearly, but apparently not. Surely my response was clear this time? :)

OK TS owners are once again are being asked to tear up their property. First Park N`view, then Idle Aire. Its only natural the would want to make as much revenue as possible.

They will be short sighted in getting the price so high that the service will be under utilized.

Catch 22.

I'm sure it's not a new E-1 program. However, a savy national truckstop might consider such a program . . . with either pay for 24 hours electric or maybe exchange for shower credit. I could see that increasing fuel purchases at any chain that might put such a program in.

Some of the national chains; e.g. Pilot Flying J, have started to incorporate paid Shorepower into their sites. Shorepower is building a national network of plug-in stations - updates here: THE STEP PROJECT | Truck Stop Locations

I noticed a few of those locations awhile back .... and none of them were designed to provide power to a cargo van.

Those "big riggers" get real upset when a parking space is lost to a" less than truck" vehicle. Parking is at a premimum in the truck lot!

Perhaps a study to see if it is possible to power the rv/straight truck/van parking area also?

Just a suggestion, but I dont see anything in Laredo or ElPaso Texas. You do realize that those are probably 2 of the biggest markets in the nation for this kind of service?

Not only is it hot down there, but as a rule, it takes a few days to get a load out of there once we deliver. There are a LOT of trucks down there...even on a slow day. If I were starting your business from scratch, that would probably the first areas I would go after.

I'd support a place with shore power plug-ins for cargo vans and would drive 30 miles for it.

To address the payment options brought up in the older part of the thread, how about the FedEx Office (kinkos) model of being able to use credit/debit cards OR loading a card at a kiosk with whatever cash amount you'd like. Then it can be used same as a credit card with whatever amount that is not used available for next time. The same card can be reloaded at the kiosk as often as one likes.

I also think a frequent user program would help popularize the use of shore power and bring drivers that may have otherwise gone elsewhere; for every so many hours used you get a free hour (or a shower credit or or in store discount, etc).

Hope more and more places start offering it, and that they include cargo van/Sprintet options.
