Just kidding ya.
I imagine you dress nicely,as many from your era did.
I remember laughing at a driver that had to get some nice trousers to wear to diner.
Earlier, Phil talked about right and wrong ties. Looking good or bad in them.
Bob Caffee looks good in a tie. As do most tall thin guys.
Having spent many years in and around shops, I believe ties, rings, and necklaces do not belong around trucks. For safety reasons.,

As much time as I spend on my hands and knees, crawling around freight, etc a tie would often be a danger.

thank gawd he wasn't talking about dispatch again.
I am VERY polite to dispatch 99% of the time. Even last week when our load went goofy.

As we all should be.
People forget that they don't make up most of the stuff we get pizzed over.
They don't tell the customer to not be ready.
They don't give us wrong info usually unless the wrong info was given to them.
For the most part, they are just clerks doing what they are told.
Little reason not to be polite to them.

Ok so no ties bow or otherwise with the polo shirt.....But how about a bolo 
Maybe even epulets with ranking Whiteglove Reefer Tval years of service hash marks ect. Oh and a saber yeah thats the ticket in a nice shiny scabard.... Sorry lost it there for a minute that look only goes good with dictators of third world countries. Wonder when Obama will start playing dress up?

Wearing a tie doesn't mean diddly squat as far as professionalism is concerned if you have a large ego to feed, an attitude, or just plain arrogant, thinking you are better than others.
I would rather deal and work with a biker-type who is genuine and more sincere than some tie-wearing types ever will be.
Please understand that I am not saying all tie-wearing people are that way. But I have seen my share.

What about big boy shirt?
You've inspired me to put on my black skull cap with the bar and shield logo.
The bow tie is the best to wear with a polo shirt. Stylish, refined, understated, yet not so gay as to make people think you're gay.
yeah that's what I was thinking of. I've seen people wear the bow tie, but I would not be caught dead with one on a polo shirt

What if we turn that around a little? Is a professional attitude going to dress like a pig? We have this same conversation about vehicle upkeep and signage.
As for ties, they are a safety issue in most cases around trucks and machinery. Even a clip-on can end up in places that can cause damage (foreign object damage). I'm surprised (actually not) when I go in places that say, no rings, watches, or jewelry, and everyone is required to wear an id card lanyard around their neck.
