Yes, Dogs. Mother in-law breeds Great Danes and has a customer who would like a puppie shipped to of all places St. Johns Airport (because he-customer-is close to the airport) in Canada... basically at The Very Eastern Tip of Canada.
it's 2400 miles from where we're at in upstate South Carolina.

What's the best way to ship this critter to that locale? truck? or Flight?

We've done a little searching, but could not get solid numbers. Who do I call or where do I look for such a transaction, I went to the airport website briefly but could not locate anything that looked like it could easily help me.

I told her that shipping an animal to Canada would more than likely mean it would have to held for a week or two for health reasons.

If you're on layover and looking for something to do, this might keep you busy. :)
Thanks, BigBus.
Greyhound won't ship that far. I don't run that far east either, not yet any ways.
Yahoo maps says about 45 hours travel time.
Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks again...

I would never ship a puppy via greyhound or by any airline. After seeing what happened to one dog on a dock at Delta, and knowing what happened to another who had a one way ride on greyhound, I would opt for a service and pay the extra to make sure it gets there.

There are services out there that do just that. I think Moot posted a link to an organization helps arrange it with truckers.

I was joking about shipping on the hound. And Shipping costs are not a big issue... we're talking about Full Blooded registered Great Danes, not exactly your newspaper ad boxer for sale. Shipping dogs by air is still very reliable, and travel insurance is always a good idea when shipping live animals that many people often overlook.

Reliable or not, it is the treatment of the animal on many of the docks in the freight areas of these airlines.

I know about Great Danes, we used to raise them for show and it isn't a difficult dog to transport. If I have a reliable van to use, I would offer to make the trip for costs just to have fun with it.

I hauled a lab when i was with my previous carrier...wasn't a pup, but not grown, maybe a yr old...as soon as we left the pickup, i let it out of the cage and enjoyed the company...he also had a good time as he laid on the bunk (high enough to see out the windsheld) and just watched as we drove...i am sure i fed him stuff i shouldn;t have, but he enjoyed and when we got close and i made the call to meet to pickup, i put him back in hs cage and delivered...

Not sure id want a dog on a dock at the bus or air terminal...

We had a great experience sending our cat via the former Northwest Airlines to Canada from Ohio. It included a detailed "care manifest"

We/I usually deliver the dogs personally. "Most" of the pups have gone in the South Eastern part of the US and/or the eastern half of the US, or they've been shuttled up to the owner thru a friend at a 1/2 way point. I doubt this deal up in Canada will go thru, we have another person interested in the islands in the Carribean, but I doubt that will work out as well... most interested parties that are great distances away never materialize.

Even though Greyhound was in jest, just thought I'd toss this out there anyway: Greyhound Bus Shoots Load of Bull Semen All Over I-65 in Nashville

The giant canisters spooked local drivers, who said they were smoking and causing a foul odor. (WKRN-TV)

There's a joke there somewhere about smoking a cigarette after, and whether it was the canisters or the local drivers who were smoking, but.... :D
