Sex on the road.

Now that I have your undivided attention, this post has nothing to do with sex, or the road. Got a new Garmin today and noticed in the owners manual that Californy and Minn forbid the use of suction cup devices on the windshield of a motor vehicle. I would never have even thought of that. Just FYI. (sorry about the heading)

Why would you want to have sex on the road, when you could just use the sleeper

If California was to enforce that law they would no longer have to worry about smog or any vehicles on the road!

The law is meant to remind drivers that obscuring a part of the windshield is creating a blind spot, I think, which is why small items are ok, but larger ones aren't. I hope this means they're going to go after the idiots who clear just a tiny portion of snow from the windshield!

I think it's interesting that the states (CA and MN) that prohibit the use of suction cups or any other manner of "suspending" items between the windshield and the driver specifically make exemptions for police and other law enforcement personnel to do so.

I guess that means Cheech and Chong's car is illegal now. Not to mention my plastic Jesus ridin on the dashboard of my car... er truck.

I was thinking about the sex on the road thing. Wouldn't that be hard on your back? Also got a good chance of getting runned over. ;)

What about the prepass and ez pass isn't that the same basic concept? Or is there a loop hole with double sided tape? I prefer the shoulder of the get on ramp over the road.

Yes, I wondered about that too when I was going thru the owners manual. I end out placing my gps in the corner of the windshield just above my safety inspection and registration stickers, so the only obstruction I have is that little patch of ground that is already obstructed by the state's property. --eb

Are they going to do something about the guys that have trash piled 10 inches high across the entire dash?

LDB,
I dunno. That trash is more of a safety hazard than a gps. That stuff could go flying in an accident and put someone's eye out. Seriously though when I took driver's ed in high school our teacher brought a newspaper article to school about a women who died in a car wreck because a can of pork n beans went flying thru the air on impact, and busted her in the back of the head.

My Prepass came with a wavier that allowed it to be put on the windshield. I don`t know what happens when additional transponders are required.(Ex-Pass and such)

I got busted by a corporate auditor for having a phone book behind the driver's seat in the cab of my truck. I used the phone book for looking up companies with incomplete or incorrect addresses on the B.O.L. The auditor explained that the phone book could become a deadly projectile and kill me. When I asked about the bag of tire chains on the floor next to me and what kind of bodily damage that would do to me, I was assured that company policy required the tire chains but not the phone book.

I would like to think that a decent Attorney fighting that ticket with where an EZ Pass BLOB is stuck at would be in ones Favor. My Garmin is not obstructing my view but is suctioned onto the windshield.

As for junk on the Dash, they all get there turn sooner or later passing thru a Scale House.

Just like some of the Junk my Mechanic works on I asked how do they get an inspetion sticker? And than they are IRATE when the DOT does write them fines in the Thousands when my Mechanic explaines this is broke and that needs fixn and this and that and that and this.... Bald tires, bad brakes, bent tie rods, cracked windows etc...

There attitude I aint been cought yet, but its only time hopefully before an accident.

I ordered this van without any rear door glass (no side door glass either).

This set up eliminates the rear view mirror.

Personally, I like the panoramic view through the front windshield. I yank the EZ Pass off when it is not needed. For me, driving without any distractions via the view through the front windshield makes driving safer and more pleasurable too! If I could figure a way to eliminate the two Velcro strips for the EZ Pass they would be gone as well.

I sit high in the seat at 6’4†and the windshield mounted rear view mirror was always a hindrance to my line of sight. Now I enjoy a theater view when driving through the mountains as I take in the splendor of fall foliage. For me, nothing is going on that windshield to disturb my view.

PS. Studies show that reflections from items lying on the dashboard, items hanging from the mirror or other attachments on the windshield actually cause your eyes to work harder; hence, increased eye strain. Your eyes tend to fixate on those items as you scan across your field of vision. Those continual momentary fixations increase stress on the ocular muscles. Get rid of all that superfluous stuff, clean your windshield both inside and out everyday and enjoy the view! Your eyes will thank you for it too!

David, I've got a holder with suction cups for my ez pass. I got it at the Petro in Elkton, Md. I don't recall the price but I'm sure it was less than $10.

If these states prohibit suction cup devices, how do they allow the mounting of toll paying devices or even Prepass?
