Security Tape

We need to know if anyone has an idea on how to remove security tape residue?
We just refused a load due to this tape and not wanting to deface the box on the truck. If we can find a safe way to remove this residue we will not have to go through this mess again.
Any ideas?

Try Goo Gone. It is citrus based and works on most glue residue.

Two suggestions, not sure if they will work

1)Bug & Tar remover---found at any auto parts store
Sold as liquid or in Airesol can
In Indiana we have lots of gravel roads and to keep the dust down they coat them with oil. Made a mess of my van.

2.)Goo Gone--- test on paint in an inconspicious area before using
Goo Gone - 14 oz. spray bottle S-10501 - Uline

Spray & wash. You can find it in the laundry section. It also works great to remove bugs & junk on the windshield, grease on your hands or vehicle, spilled diesel on your tank, and a whole lot more. I keep a bottle in all my trucks & car.

I thought thats what they used a seal for. What industry would want to tape a persons truck closed?

Lots of places use the tape especially for cargo vans that have no place for a seal. We used the tape at Brinks when we loaded the trucks. If you tamper with the seal you will be able to see it

Good to know thanks you guys. I have spray and wash and I have goo gone just do not want to ruin paint on truck.

It is kind of silly to put security tape on a truck that has it hinge bolts welded anyway.

They want to use security tape and also a seal. Lots of over kill.

But next time we will be better prepared with a product to get the tape residue off of the truck and not refuse a load over it.

Cool. I use to work for Loomis Armored. We didn't use tape or seals. We just stuck a guy with a gun back there. :D Well, we did seal bags but not doors...

I hope they told you about the tape before you got loaded!

Oh no we were loaded and ready to do paperwork before we found this little item out. We then were unloaded.

We were to worried about them defacing the truck and not being able to clean it off. With all of these suggestions though I think we might have been all right.

What a surprise though to have a seal and tape.

Hey Scott,
At Brinks we would preload trucks with coin and seal them up in the warehouse for the driver/messengers the next morning
Since all employees had access to the building and truck key. That way when the messenger inspected the truck he could see no one opened the door. I guess a guard with a gun would work too LOL but this was a cheaper method.

Linder, where exactly did they want to put this security tape? I am assuming you have swing doors. Maybe Bob could mount some pieces of decorative stainless steel where these security seals might be placed. The stainless steel would look like part of the truck. I ain't talking nekid ladies here, just some thin adhesive backed stainless steel.

Just a thought so in the future you wouldn't have to turn down a load. Stainless is painless. Easier to clean without damage than a painted surface.

Ok, I found that WD-40 takes off Tape Residue as well as Company Logos if You should change companies..Spray it on and Start rubbing with a dry cloth and it comes off

Very good suggestion there Moot. Did I read that someone refused a load because of umm tape residue on the box?? Jes when I tink i've read it all - - an then wala!

This is very educational, I learn something quite a bit on this site. Still trying to decifer what it was I learned on this thread.

Linda, Hi--what did the FedX dispatch have to say when you had to be unloaded at the "end of the 11th hour"? They can be a little "salty" sometimes...

ps...thanks for all the info and advice I've noticed by TeamCaffee while searching the archives. I've read and followed the forum here for about a year and a half--just haven't been actively involved till now.

Dakota wrote about using tape on a CV. Am I missing something? Do they tape the driver in or out of the van? Most anything I carried in my van could be removed through the driver's door, except big stuff.

Not a solution to remove residue but it solves the problem,

Have 2 pieces of stainless mounted one on each door, opposite of one another, have the shipper put his sticky seal paper on that. That way you can buff off any crap and it won't look bad. Ive seen these seals on the hinge side of the doors too so you might need 6 pieces total.

We used to mount pieces on stainless (with adhesive) on the trucks for the IFTA and Safety decals. That way even if you got narly with a razor taking the decal off you could always buff it up clean again.

Just a thought......
