I have always wanted to get certified. I used to swim on the swim team in high school and also coached it when my kids were young.

I always thought that when my kids were grown and gone I would have time but now I am on the road all the time, I find it hard just to maintain a house let alone any fun activities.

I have always wanted to take classes and get certified, but i have an inter-ear problem that i had to have an operation so that i can keep my balance (operation was over 35 yrs ago and it is not an issue anymore), but i have always shyed away from it because of the pressure changes......i'd still love to do it....LOL, I live less then a mile from a scuba hut that give lessons too............

I hear you Chef would love to myself as well but after chronic sinus problems and surgery 12-15 deep is about all I can handle.

Well for all of those who want to give it a try and get lessons I can help, I drive but also am part owner of a scuba shop in Clarksville, TN. One of the conditions when I got involved with this shop was that we offer a CDL discount. So any drivers with a valid CDL come on down. We can set it up to be done in as little as four days. Now mind you they will be long days but it can be done. I would love to see us as a group set up a dive trip for drivers to go on. Or we could all meet in Florida and dive some springs for starters then move on to the ocean.

Remember everything looks bigger underwater so dive naked!!

I would like to suggest that any one with an interest in this DO IT!!. I have dived for 30 + years, and truly love it. Being assigned in various South East Asia countries for many years I have dived some truly remarkable and interesting sites. I want to dive Truck lagoon in the next five years or so before all of the ships have disentegrated. A lot of the resorts and dive shops will offer a "resort course" of 6 to 8 hours ( no certifications) but it will give a taste of whats out there.

My wife and I are SCUBA divers, but we only get out once a year on a liveaboard.

Reefer Hauler, I think that's a Freudian slip, it's Truk Lagoon!

They make a special type of ear plug that may work for you it is vented and that makes it easier to clear your ears less outside pressure. But because of the ear problem you would need a Dr's clearence before anyone would let you try diving. Most diving is done in 35 feet or less water

Just a side note for you people with ear problems my youngest son had a mastoidclestiatoma < not sure of the spelling. The infection ate his ear drum all of his inner ear bones the mastoid gland. You can look into his ear and see all the way to the back of his head from the inside. Cool huh lol not. Even his balance bone was exposed to outside air but he got lucky he had scar tissue form around the balance bone so the air and water doesn’t get to it now. He dives with me he is certified Advanced and has been down to 110 feet with me. So don’t think that just because you have an ear problem that you can’t dive. You very well may be able to dive only your DR could tell you if it is possible.

Could one of you Scuba divers please come to the story thread, my truck (not Truk) is about to fall into the pacific ocean. I was also just informed that I cannot swim, also I am stoned on glue. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Doug

Hey before you go under 1 are you loaded? 2 does your truck have full coverage? If the answer is yes to either question please give Ken and i your exact location because Ins co's pay good money to recover vehicles that are underwater along with the freight we could make a buck.

What kind of glue do you prefer? Elmers? lol. I just die laughing at some of your replies. You'd be a trip in a comedy club!

I believe the truck was empty, and vintage airplane glue 1968 was a great year.

Thanks for the nice words Guido!

This is a true story. Linda and I learned to scuba a few years ago so we could dive in Cozumel Mexico. We were on a group dive, which included a newlywed couple.

For those not familiar with diving at lower depths there is a condition that can occur called "nitrogen narcosis". The symptoms are similar to intoxication and can include impaired judgment.

Here is Lyn's journal entry recounting the event that landed me in trouble: Palancar Garden, 96 ft, 2/24/2004, 10:58 AM: "Wow, Cozumel is amazing; the colors and fish and everything! Can't believe I went this deep. It didn't seem any different than 50 feet. ... We saw a barracuda on the way down, worked our way through reef formations like caves, watched Todd pinch another woman's butt. He says he thought it was me. 'Funny' to watch"!

What can I say!? The woman looked just like Lyn! Never mind if her hair was a different color and she was wearing different color (neon yellow) fins.

Even after the incident I did not realize what had happened until we got back to around 50 or 60 feet. It was then that I began to comprehend the error of my ways but I had no clue as to how on earth (err in the sea) that I could mistake Lyn for another woman!

The worst part was getting in the boat and trying to explain to the newlywed that I thought she was my wife. We were the first back in the boat and after apologizing profusely to Lyn and the newlywed for an embarrassing two or three minutes we all just sort of shut-up when her husband finally crawled up the ladder and into the boat.

To this day, I'm sure the dude would have thrown me overboard if she had said anything while we were all sitting there! He looked like a rambo Marine type.

Two weeks later, while I recounted the story at the dive shop it was one of my instructors who pointed out that it was probably narcosis that created the conditions for "the pinch". I tried to explain this to Lyn but to this day, she has her doubts!

First you should have stuck to the roy g biv rule and told her you couldnt tell the color lol. 2nd if you were narced you should have felt drunk you would have done many silly things and not remembered most of them. Im thinking it must have been a nice butt lol. hmmmmm your wife doesn't read this does she?? lol

Actually Lyn does read this and she's censoring me (talk about feeling micro-managed! lol).

I don't think I was severely narced but if you knew me and my general social habits you would have to draw the same conclusion. That there is no way I would have pinched anyone's butt without some sort of mind altering assistance!
