Sarah Palin's 'grand slam' anti-union speech

The Week

New York – After plummeting in the polls and being written off by pundits, Palin gives a rousing, campaign-like speech in Wisconsin. Is the Mama Grizzly back?

It's been a rough few months for Sarah Palin. Her poll numbers took a nose dive, and pundits on both sides all but dismissed her chances of becoming a viable presidential contender. But this weekend in Madison, Wis., the old Palin was back, delivering a stemwinder in which she defended Gov. Scott Walker (R) and sharply criticized President Obama, unions, and the GOP leadership. About 6,500 people showed up to the state capitol, with the crowd split about evenly between Tea Party activists and union supporters, who staged their own rally close by. Palin's speech was covered by CNN and Fox News, and roundly praised by conservative commentators. Is this the beginning of Palin's return from the political wilderness?

Why so many fixated on Palin? Besides, she only echoed FDR on this subject. He was opposed to PUBLIC employee unions as well. Palin is a nobody, just another politician. They are ALL the same. Just out for their power and glory. Obama, Bush and so on down the line. They ALL suck.

Hey, I "fling crap" at the left and right. Anyone who would insulate themselves within a single philosophy and who would turn a blind eye to any other line of thinking is not doing anybody, least of all themselves, any good whatsoever.

I do and will continue to "insulate" myself in conservatism and I don't consider myself blind to any other line of thinking.....I see and hear and read what's on the other side and I choose to remain where I am.

Whichever side they're on, I have no respect for any parent who allows [much less encourages] a child under the age of 18 to participate in any political event. Observe, absolutely - but they aren't mature enough to have an informed opinion yet, and responsible parents know it.

PS Liberal, conservative: we all need to remember the second half of the saying "United we stand...." because we are not helping anything by tearing each other down. Except the politicians who count on us not paying attention to what they're doing to ALL of us.

That's probably so but it doesn't excuse the treatment she received.....there's no boundaries some people won't cross to try and make a point.

This kind of behavior is reprehensible, I do agree with that. I also agree with Cheri in that children have no place in furthering the agendas of their parents.
As far as Sarah Palin herself, I say let her speak. She will talk herself right out of the polls.

Nothing excuses that - but it reminded me of the behavior of some parents at their kid's ballgame. It's like they believe it's ok to be obnoxious at some events, right?
I think Palin has proven to be quite adept at serving herself & her family's [financial] interests, but the general public's, not so much...

I consider myself a liberal, I do not whine and complain, and I am very much alive. Does anyone listen to me? Clearly you did just now.

A few things you have to know about the Soapbox and some of its inhabitants.

1. If you do not agree with their brand conservatsism, you are a whining, complaining liberal. Even though they have no idea what either a conserative or liberal means in its truest sense.

2. Most in the Soapbox have trouble with separating what is actually being said here by the poster, and what they read on other comment pages, blogs, etc, etc. from other websites they frequent.

3. A lot of them also have a hard time differentiating between reality and fiction, journalism and punditry(is that a word?), news and tabloid news, and so on and so on. I'm sure you get the picture.

Thanks for the heads up.
