Hondaking, what type of vehicle is it?

I was talking to my dad's neighbor when I got back home and he just bought a new ford van and the canton SS office refused to give him the exemption because it was not a truck. He ended up going to lansing to straighten it up and it took him most of the day to find someone to talk to. But they warned him that if he does not use it for commercial purposes anymore, the taxes will be applied to the original purchase price - they are getting greedy again.

Make sure that you have your original copy of your lease and a copy for them to keep.

Greg..wasn't it last year that Mi changed the official truck designation to 5,000 gvrw? To make them scale? Hence a van is now a truck?

Different statutes cover taxes and definitions of what is a truck. Beside the SS office interprets things to their liking.

The taxes are not really sales tax - if someone like a dealer or SS says sales tax, they are not truthful. The Michigan supreme court ruled that our state is not allowed to levy sales tax, but it is a use tax.
