Safe driving

Recently I hit the magic 1,000,000 safe miles in my driving career. The past 670,000 of which were expedited. This stream might be a good place for us to post safety tips, that keep the roads (our workplace) a safer place.

GOOD SLEEP- this is very important to me. I hibernate as much as possible during layovers. Always being well rested, can make or break your ability when that 1,500 mile straight through goldmine of a load shows up.

TRUCK INSPECTIONS- Since I do most of the service on my truck myself, I know the mechanics of my truck better than most certified techs. Doing a complete inspection will make you a much safer driver and save you money eventually. Since I run retreads on my drives and extra air pressure to save fuel, I always check the retread seams, and carry industrial adhesive. in case they start to pull away.

The adhesive when used properly works fantastic. The key is to apply it at the first sign of a retread lifting. It is not glue but an industrial strength adhesive, I do not run team, since I started expediting. That 1,500 miles is my max straight through, if I am well rested. It's about 24 hours no biggie.

I didn't read the whole post. I read the statement of 1M miles safely and stopped there. Now that I've seen comments and read the entire post I've got to retract some of my praise. 1500 miles straight through? It's about 24 hours no biggie? Sorry, those are not comments made by a safety conscious individual no matter what a few of the folks around here might argue. Retreads on my drives suggests a regulated vehicle and even if that's a van using big truck lingo that's too long straight through and too many miles straight through to be safe. Sorry. So make mine a congratulations on not yet having the accident you are angling for when making runs of that nature.

Leo..glad you spoke up....1500 miles straight thru..? Must be a van or unregulated vehicle..the log book doesn't allow for that..
Congratulations for some lucky driving..

Everyone knows their own limits. If 1,500 miles is beyond what you can handle then you would be wise not to do it. For some of us it is just another day at this great office.

Steve are you pushing 4,000,000 miles yet? You been at the game 26 years in expedite and maybe more before you started at Roberts Express.
